  2. Izturis had a goood day yesterday and what I really liked is he learned in his approach. Game came up and swings at first pitch with bases loaded, game 2 he was patient and got into a hitters count and got the hit to right. He has been just fine in the first two games
  3. Maybe I am not the first to say this, but i for one, want to put my support in Izzy's corner. THe guy got hurt at a very bad time in his career. He was coming into his own and players mature--just a fact. I told this story last fall--I havppened to see Phil Nevin out at The Lodge after a game last summer and he spoke so highly of Izturis that it really caught my attention. I just really think he is going to be good for us this year--I guess we will just all have to wait and see but I truly dont believe he deserves all the negatives that he has received before he has ever played and healthy and meaningful game for the cubs. Let's wait and see before we crucify him!
  4. I can actually speak somewhat knowledgeably on the subject of Phil Nevin. When we took out trip to Chicago this summer, we happened to meet Phil at THe lodge. HE was a nice guy--talked to us for about 2 hours and drank a few beers--actually that was the worst thing about him--he let us school teachers buy him beer after beer and never offered to get us a round :-k Anyways, he made it clear that he still thought he could be a starter in the league and he did not want to come back to CHicago in a reserve role. I am not saying that the market will not dictate this as his only option, but it is his goal to get an everyday job somewhere Funny and true ending to the story--as we were leaving I said--we would love to have you back next year--you are the type of role player we need/ HE said--I really want to start somewhere.... (now remember--I am half in the bag at this time) and I say--like where--Pittsburg or KC?? THe next morning when the boys and I rehashed the story I realized how that probably came out bad but I really was just curious where he thought he could start :D Anyways, that is my Phil Nevin Story!
  5. On the subject of Hendry's terrible personel decisons. I just don't understand everyone's fascination with ripping Hendry's every move. I just dont see it. other than Neifi and Glendon Rusch--what are his other bad moves? J Jones? Howry? Eyre? Trading for ARAM? Pierre? Someone PLEASE explain to me all of the terrible moves that Hendry has made, because I just dont see them. I think actually he has a better defense with the injury bug than Baker does. Maybe I am off base, but I just hear constant ripping of Hendry and aside from the 2 moves I mentioned earlier, I just dont know what else he is supposed to do. Also, I didnt even mention all of the players that people around here wanted and he didnt pay that went to other teams and stunk!
  6. I went to Monday and Tuesdays games this week and after Tuesdays game, we ran into Phil Nevin. He was a very nice guy with a beautiful girlfriend!! He was a bit frusterated with his lack of playing time, but all in all seemed to be appropriate with all of his comments. The one thing that I really wanted to metion was all of the great things he said about Ceasar Izturis. This was the one topic where he became adimit--he said this guy is an absolute stud!! The people are going to love him. I think it was a great move. I just found it real interesting that a big basher guy like Phil would be so overly excited about a middle infielder like Izturis, but he really was........so I must admit, that really got me excited about the Izturis signing as well--I guess only time will tell. Anyways, Phil was a great guy and I hope he can find a place to play soon!
  7. It will be interesting to see what they do. I just think these are the "type" of players that Hendry should be looking at
  8. Obviously this is a pretty big couple weeks for Hendry to push the team back to being competitive next year. I just want to get some discussion on 2 players that I would really like to see the cubs go after--I have heard there is interest in one, but have not heard any about the other. Personally, I just think these are two players that would probably be attainable with some of the guys we have to offer at the deadline. 1) Wilson Betimit...I have not heard any mention of him being moved, but I would sure love to know what it would take to get him and either play him at short and Cedeno at 2nd or vice-versa. I really think this guy is about to explode as a player but I dont know if Atlanta has room for him. 2) Willy Mo Pena....I read that the cubs have shown interest in him and that would be very exciting to me. I think he is a young power hitter who could be had for some bullpen help. I would like to hear everyone else's thoughts on these 2 and know if anyone thinks that either or both could be a possiblitly.
  9. I read here daily or twice a day, but since "the night" in 03 I just cannot bear to post much. I do have to ask if anyone else has the same feeling about Matt Murton as I do. I just hope this kid gets a chance to get some consistant PT down the stetch to see what he can do--I just think everyone is giving up on him way to quickly. It seems like he gets big hits and everyone raves about the type of attitude and work ethic he has. I just feel that if he were left alone to just play that he will make big strides the rest of this year. I mean in his first full season he is hitting about 275 and probably a top 3 OB% for our team. I know his power has not come around yet, but I think if given time, it will Just my thoughts--let me know what you think......sometimes I wonder if Ryne Sandberg would have ever been given a chance to develop if he would have come up during the quick-to-judge era in Cubs baseball?!?!?
  10. Sure you can get comcast here in Des Moines--all you need to do is order direct TV!
  11. Count me on board--I was disgusted with the fans treatment of him today. Listen, I get as frusterated as anybody, but come on--he was not sent here to be a savior....it is the 4th game and we are 3-1 and 2-0 against the cards, lets just leave Jack Jones alone and give him a bit of time. Anyone else remember how many people wanted to run D Lee out of town his first 2 months when it looked like he was hitting with a toothpick and HS Choi was leader the league in homers.... I am not saying Jack will be anything like Lee, but lets just give him some time before we start booing him and comparing him to CPatt
  12. Interesting stuff today. I just have one question/comment on this Burnett situation. Does anyone else remember hearing when they were talking about Burnett at the deadline that Ryan Dempster and him are best friends. For some reason I thought this and obvioulsy Dempster loves chicago and maybe he is selling that to Burnett Also, for what it is worth--(and I know it wont happen), but I wold love to see a rotation of Z, Prior Burnett, Mad and Rusch and put wood in the pen. I just think kerry's style is such a fit for the pen
  13. Well, i am done--I will continue to keep an eye on this team like a child when a present is being taken through the room, but that is it. No more posting on here--no more thinking about the game all day This is just not a good team, I will always be a fan, but at least for this year, I am done being a fanatic. Thanks for the fun and interesting arguments to all. PEACE OUT!!
  14. Burnitz is a jerk!!!!!!! You can just tell he is one of those guys who thinks he is twice as good as he actually is. I couldn't even get that typed in the time that this inning took!
  15. You know what is kind of funny.................... the same people who think Murton and Cedeno should be playing are the people who think that the Astros are a bad line-up?? I mean they have Pie (Tavarez) in center, Murton (Lane), Probably corners as good as us and a scrappy 2B who is probably a HOFer!!!! I just think they are a ball club--they play ball--I don't really know what we are (other than BAD!)
  16. What the heck is Rothschild coming out to say??????????????
  17. Anyone got the stats on how many walks our pitchers have given and how many our hitters have taken??
  18. Welley wasn't good at AAA either people.......... I think Rothschild needs to go. Strikes--lower part of the strike zone--let's start teaching this!
  19. Mike Lamb hit the slam off of Prior Here we go ARAM!!
  20. OK TODD!!!!!!! Very nice!(That crow tastes delicious!)
  21. Any bets on whether Welley walks the first batter he faces??? Then all of you begging for him, can cross him off of your list too!! I just don't get the fascination with him, but I hope he gets an out here
  22. Anyone else think that Rothschild makes too many visits??? I mean they are dinking them in--what is there to say........
  23. Good Eyes Derek--come on ARAM keep it going!!
  24. That a baby TOdd!!!!!!! Show that stat about scoring first baby!!!!!
