  1. I am sorry people but you are just flat out naive if you think that calling up Soto to be the everyday Catcher for July/August andSept would have panned out the same as him getting a few spot starts. Some of you just are just pessimistic to a fault. Kendall has been awesome, and until Blevins becomes an all-star or better yet even a reliable set-up man, then it was a good trade. Heck, even if he does, it was still a good trade. In order to get something, sometimes you have to get something.
  2. I don't really get statements like that, but whatever. For me, he's a player that hard to NOT root for. From all accounts, he's a great guy off the field, arrives to the ballpark earlier than most, and you see a smile on his face during games more than any other Cub. I don't get how he's not easy to root for. He pisses me off a lot when he swings at junk two feet off the plate, but I like Jacque. What he said............... =D>
  3. and I WANT IT NOW!!!!!!! Ok, I just tried to search for a post from May after getting back from wrigley and I was saying how JJ is a solid little player and many of you just need to lay off of him--I couldnt find it, but I do just want to commend JJ. He always hustles and seems to do his best and he seems like a real good teammate. Thank you JJ for sticking with it when many were not sticking with you!
  4. You guys cannot really think you no more about baseball and in particular this team than Lou knows........do you? I am not saying I always agree, but some of you just act as if he just decides by the flip of a coin. I think he has earned a bit more respect than that. Coaching is sometimes about having a feel for your team and I think Lou has proven many times that he has a pretty good idea of what he is doing. Truth be told it is just not as easy as some of you make it out to be.
  5. 34-17. He pinch-hit on Wednesday and the Cubs lost. yep--forgot that one--my bad!
  6. I am pretty sure I heard someone on comcast say the other day when he was recalled that their record ths season when he appears in a game was 32-16, and now with these last 2 wins that would be 34-16. I know it is quirky, but it is a very interesting stat
  7. But Murton's not going to play, and Stewart is a better option than Jacque Jones (assuming Pie takes over center field). Lou being stubborn about Murton doesn't make acquiring Stewart a good move, it makes firing Lou a good one. So you'd fire the 17th winningest manager in MLB history for a guy who has declined from last season? Don't get me wrong I really like Murt, but I don't see all the love people have for him based on his actual production. I'd much rather bash the Cubs for jerking around Pie. Perhaps I spoke a bit hastily. I didn't mean to imply the mismanagement of Murton is a fireable offense of its own. Combined with the rest of the screwups though, we really need to evaluate Lou's continued presence here. He certainly seems to be hurting more than he's helping at first glance. Yaaa--that is it--FIRE LOU.... That will solve everything. I mean come on people, do you really think it is that easy?!?!?
  8. Biy, i am really with you there. I am really growing tired of watching him play. Seems like that hunger he was playing with early is gone and now he looks more like one of Dusty's boys. Man, I just cant take much more
  9. This is not intended to be insensitive to this situation, but I just have a question about this story. When you read it, why was Coolbaugh in the 1st base coaches box when the opposing team was batting?
  10. WoW--it is amazing how dumb some of the national media is--and they just keep piping off about topics they have no clue about. On the morning show Bayless was ripping on Piniella saying that the "turnaround" was just luck and Piniella's tirade was unprofessional and unwarranted. He said that his numerous Chicago sources say that the players dont like Piniella because they felt he was calling them out. The irony is that he may be right about the players attitudes but he is too dumb to realize that this is exactly why Lou had to do what he did. We all knew this team needed a drastic turnaround in attitude and Lou said enough is enough. Bayless is just too dumb or not paying enough attention to realize that it is not just luck--the Cubs are playing BETTER Baseball because they have that fear that if they dont produce they might not like the reprocussions--I think that is what they refer to as old-school managing! Any other thoughts???
  11. Milwaukee placed Ben Sheets on the DL today--I didnt see this news anywhere else
  12. Relax, i am sure that Soto was probably at the workout this morning/afternoon, so it is probably pretty safe to assume he is here. There is just no reason to anounce anything until tomorrow before the game--just in case other transactions/trades come about. I think we are safe to think this is done!
  13. True that it may not impact Young, but it sure does impact the Padres and their other four starters. Had it not been the ASB, then one of them would have had to go with one less day of rest No he would not have appealed it. He dropped it because he wouldn't really miss a start with the way the schedule was set up. He started on the 4th. His team played on the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th. He could have been around for game 1 after the break, with 2 days of rest following what is likely to be no more than 1 inning in the ASG. Now he'll go on the 14th. It's pretty much the thing that would happen with any starting pitcher getting a 5 game suspension. His next start gets pushed back a day, ASG or not.
  14. Ok, it is a rather slow couple of days around the cubs so I thought I would throw this out to you all. As I was driving back from the east coast, I heard one of the Chicago radio guys complaining about Young getting to participate in the game when he is serving a suspension. At first, I found this kind of corny, but then as he went on and talked about Selig's goal to get the game back to "meaning something", I sort of shifted. Plus, the whole acceptence of his suspension during this time has alowed Young to have virtually no punishment at all. What is everyone else's thoughts? I can probably be swayed either way. Also, could the length that it has taken to make a decision on Lee be a good thing for the cubs and mean that the commissioners office is not taking this as a serious offence? Discuss.....
  15. That was pretty neat. I am now heading east where I will meet the cubbies in DC  BTW, Froemming still is a piece of sh&*!
  16. You got that right..........total BS. if he gives Hill that same strike zone in the first--it is probably 0-0. It just happens over and over again with froemming........honestly--what a joke. Hmmmmmmmm, a milwaukee native and always seems to screw the cubs--duhhhhhhh
  17. Here is the thing--this is not on any of the other more "silly" cubs message boards, and if someone were out just o have some fun, I think he would go to many of these boards before NSBB. I guess only time will tell, but I am buying it. I just really hope we dont have to pay too much of his remaining salary
  18. Sorry--I should have noted the sarcasm. It was meant to be light-hearted because everyone was calling Hendry a liar. I didnt mean to be offensive!
  19. It did sound funny--I agree, but they definitely said that he would NOT be sent down
  20. I was telling California Raison that he misunderstood the update--sorry was not talking to you. ..........................................And i only could wish I was drunk Murphy is making it seem like the move hasn't been made. He's talking about who should be traded, released, or sent down to add the pitcher tonight, and he said Jones is the obvious answer. He seems kind of dumb though, so maybe he just wasnt' paying attention to Offman. Yeah, that's why I was wondering if I misheard. Don't know how reliable this guy is (Murphy?) but he was talking like Theriot was still on the team. What a mess this is. I hope Lou claims another surprise for tonight. What? No offense, but are you drunk? did you just ask yourself if you are drunk?
  21. STOP IT EVERYONE--I have been listening all afternoon and all they have said is that Jones told Rogers that he has not been traded and there is a reliever coming up and Theriot WILL NOT BE SENT TO THE MINORS. Man, you guys are quick to crucify Hendry. I know you are a good poster and a good guy but in theis case--California Raison--you are the liar! (which I am sure was just a misunderstanding of what was said!) WTF? Nothing has happened yet, but there will be a move to get another reliever. They said it would NOT be Fonte, Theriot
  22. You did! Murphy is making it seem like the move hasn't been made.
  23. 24. Not to be picky, but Jones ran for Bowen not Hill. Hill actually got a great jump and scored the winning run. Anyways, let's get this trade done already....it feels like the McGriff saga--but not nearly as cool :? Per the Score, he's likely to be traded before tonight's first pitch. \:D/ Didn't they say 50/50 yesterday? And that something would probably get done over the weekend? They're just slowly escalating the probabilities to drag this thing out. They'd better trade Jacques soon, if they're going to. Yeah, exactly. But still...SWEET GOD I HOPE SO. I want nothing to do with jones. He did score a fairly important run last night...I know...he did nothing to actually get on...but I do have to say he served a purpose last night. No he didnt. He didnt do anything that Hill couldnt have done. Hill would have made it to third on the fumbled grounder by Matsui and He would have EASILY scored on soriano's base hit. A trained monkey could have done what jock did last night. EDIT: Oh, and dont forget, he tried to get picked off third on that matsui error.
