Ok, maybe I'm just not following what you're saying, but Miles said that the deal, as mentioned, CP, Hill, Mitre, for Dunn, was not even offered. He said the Cubs wouldnt trade Hill for Dunn, let alone all three dudes. Are you really dense or can I just not read correctly? Cause it sounds like you think Miles said that Hendry declined a Hill for Dunn trade.

tsk tsk tsk, come now, you know better than that. In 700 plus posts its easy to misconstrue the meaning behind Bruce saying that Hendry wouldnt even trade Hill for Dunn straight up, not that the offer was ever on the table, but to be representative of the fact that the cubs place such a high value on Hill and low on Dunn. Just because its ZZ and theres a history doesn't make it right to ridicule him.

Please, I don't know you from Adam, but if you were doing the same thing, I'd call you on it too. Maybe I'm the only one that has a problem with people making false statements based on something that they were too lazy too read and comprehend?

Bruce Miles wrote:

I'm working at the game and I can't linger, but I can tell you no such deal has been offered or accepted by anybody. The Cubs would not trade Hill straight up for Dunn, let alone offer additional players. This deal is not happening. But it's always fun to speculate.

ZZ wasnt too lazy to read or comprehend as he replied to my post recapping Bruce's two posts. It is perfectly within reason to read taht and construe the inference of the possibility of a proposal of Hill for Dunn straight up. I would disagree as Ive said previously, but I can see where some one would make that inference reading Bruce's statement.

I've waited way too long for this...but here goes.

No need to be calling people dense, IMB. This is a message board and opinions vary, thus creating heated debates. Sometimes things are overlooked, ya know?

I didn't call him dense. I asked him if he was being dense. If I was misconstruing what someone wrote or said, and I did it multiple times, I would hope someone would point it out.

I did so on the previous page without using demeaning adjectives...

ZZ, I interpreted the comment regarding Hendry wouldnt even do a straight up Dunn for Hill trade as an off the cuff remark by Bruce to show how highly the cubs value Hill and how low they value Dunn.

Can't we all just get along?

Why is everyone overlooking the fact that Hendry doesn't have to (and probably wouldn't) tell Miles or McCoy (?) or anybody else the truth about what is going on?

That's not to say the rumor is true (I don't happen to think the original poster is anything but a troll)...but the mere fact that a beat reporter or radio guy or anybody else in the media strikes it down doesn't mean it isn't true.

I bet you that if Bruce had come here a year ago at this time and we had asked him about Nomar, he would've said that there's no deal in the works for Nomar and that we would probably end up with Cabrera, just like everybody else in TV, radio, and the press was saying. Would anyone here disagree with this claim?

Meanwhile, we had been discussing Nomar since early July.

We have no idea what Hendry is doing, but I'm sure he's working on something. Something big (and he's not going to tell anyone in the media a thing about it).

I know I'm a new poster too, but my 'source' tells me that whatever happens, there will be an unnecessary amount of anger/posts.

People will be angry if...

-We get Dunn (regardless of whom we give up, even if it's macias - it would take something like this for the singular macias fan to come forward)

-We don't get Dunn (how could we not get him? but I posted and told Hendry to do it!)

-We get a bottle of A1 steak sauce (it is, after all how baseball, er steak, gets dunn)

One last thing, if we do indeed have access to Bruce Miles, has anyone ever asked him if Imrem makes any more sense in person? I always find myself agreeing with his columns, and then at the end I can't even remember what I was agreeing with. I hope he isn't a mod and that my first post won't be my last!

so IIRC this is the first Adam Dunn thread that I have posted in. I have 2 innocent questions that if someone could answer for me I would be grateful.

1. What is Dunn so polarizing of a player to warrant so many threads and responses?

2. Why hasn't the Huff rumors from the off season returned or at least had similar levels of conversation as Dunn?

Thanks

Okay, I last read this thread at like...what...idk sometime in the early-mid teens...I just read straight from 15-51...I deserve some time here lol.

Well the fact that it was mentioned at all on TV/radio/both makes it interesting to me regardless. If Hendry wouldn't do that deal, it's probably because of his faith in CP. I can't say I blame him, I still have faith that CP will turn it around, whether its here or some other organization.

Considering that supposedly both clubs have "turned down" the offer and said it's too steep...that could possibly mean they are still discussing a potential deal, and that there's a ways to go before anything gets done (or Dunn...if you'd prefer ;)).

Corey is starting to turn it around down in AAA...he's up in the .280's, has 3 HRs, and his OBP looks pretty solid. I know it's small sample size, and against lesser competition, but it's still encouraging nonetheless.

Wow, I read all those pages, had so many thoughts on different things, now I am going blank  Oh well. It was a great discussion.

Group A - Hates his low batting average and league leading strikeouts

Group B - loves his walks and his power

1. People see him ~19 times a year, so they have opinions on him based on whether they understand sabrmetrics, or if they remember him striking out (oh no!).

2. Huff is a worse, older version of Dunn, with even worse defense and less power/OBP. Not to mention the hilarious (insane?) demands of their G.M. Him going anywhere (even though it makes sense for that pathetic franchise) is unlikely.

Haha, sorry. The basic equation I was working with was

Neifi + Lots of Ackbar related Neifi-taunting = Cedeno plays

If this thread was started by a known troll, with enough evidence to warrant a banning, why is this thread not locked? I'm not telling the mods how to do their jobs, just inquiring as to why this debunked rumor/trolling is allowed to continue wasting posters' time. :?

Thanks! :)

I have this theory that this thread was actually started by a mod in disguise who is doing a good deed by allowing us to vent our frustrations about not having a better offense in spite of spending the most money in the NL. :)

OK, so here's the deal:

There was a rumor from the Cincinnati media the Reds were offering Dunn for left-handed pitching prospect Rich Hill, right-hander Sergio Mitre and Patterson.

Hendry laughed off that rumor, saying "Never offered, never accepted."

If this was a rumor from the Cinci media, why is SE banned? I don't know the particulars of his banning, but it seems to be that he passed on a rumor from a supposedly reliable source (Cinci media) to us. You get banned for that? That isn't trolling, as far as I know. There may be extenuating circumstances, but it looks to me that the Admins may have made a mistake.

Go back and re-read his first post.

I have a friend who works for the Cincinnati Reds.

That is not the media

There is a deal between the Reds and Cubs that should be completed and should become official within the next 48 hours.

He didn't say it was a rumor.

How can you stick up for this moron? I would encourage you to go back and re-read his posts. He was a troll. Crap like this happens every year. I'm surprised that people who have been here for a long time fell for it. He was good, but not that good.

I just got here... can someone please recap the thread, or what has been said for me?

Poster said he had a source telling him a Dunn for Patterson, Mitre, Hill deal was going to be completed sometime between last night and tomorrow evening....lots of speculation...today, he came on and said he still expects it to be done by tomorrow evening, but Bruce Miles said nothing is going on right now...supposedly, the Reds radio announcer asked Hendry tonight about that rumor, Hendry said it was too steep of a price.

and most importantly (and infuriating) Bruce said Hendry wouldnt trade Hill for Dunn straight up :pukel:

I can understand why Hendry would be hesitant do make this trade. Hill has greater value because he's lefthanded plus, he has a curveball that has been compared to Zito's. From what I understand, he has the most strikeouts of any pitcher in the minor leagues (not just the Cubs farm system) and in 5 -2/3 innings of MLB time he fanned 9. All of that makes him pretty valuable. I think that any GM would think twice about doing that deal within his own division; It's bad enough that Dontrelle Willis is in the NL the Cubs don't want to face Rich Hill in the Central.

I never said SE said it was a rumor. I said he/she passed it on. The only disparity I see is that SE claimed it came from the organization instead of the media (as the Chicago media claims). That's hardly conclusive evidence of trolling.

Yes, I was well aware that he/she might be trolling after reading the original post. I didn't bother to get my hopes up. However, I am not so quick to condemn the words of another person. It's one thing to lie (trolling) and it is another to accuse someone of lying without proof. The "all signs point to" argument isn't valid IMO b/c it's subject to personal interpretation and assumptions.

No my friend that is pretty convincing evidence he was a troll.

Whatever. I'm done with this nonsense.

Its a sad commentary on someone who has resort to starting rumors on the Web for what? Entertainment? Jollies? I've never really understood this troll mentality or thing to begin with, why? I just don't get it.

I'll give SweetEmotion some credit because whether he was boasting the correct info about his source or not - he still scooped everyone else. To the 't' he described all of the players involved and was trashed for it. I think some people are ignoring the facts and trying to cover something else up. Let's not forget that he had a huge head start on the Cincy media - and I wouldn't put it past him to have said his mole was within the Reds to either - lend more credibility to his story - or to cover his buddy's tracks so that it didn't get back to his friend the beat-writer. Whether it was true or not, there was a story brewing - GM's were talking - and SweetEmotion put it out there for us. You can't totally dismiss him as a troll. It's not only elitist, but it wreaks of mudslinging to impugn his character. I haven't seen any proof to that says otherwise. All the mods have said is that he's a troll? To what end? It obviously wasn't a PM thing. His IP address checked out. I don't get it. This is a travesty. A sham - a mockery - - - A traves-sham-mockery!
