Some good acapella on that song. I used to sing that with my brother when I was a kid.

Really I'm not gay.

But Hendry will be gay (aka lame) if he turned down Hill for Dunn straight up.

I hate this organization sometimes. Wouldnt trade Hill for Dunn, straight up? Kill me.

Yeah, ZZ, to catch up, Bruce, said Hendry wouldnt do a straight up trade. God thats ridiculous.

Oops, I didn't see that. I have my doubts Hendry is THAT dumb. Maybe Bruce didn't hear about CP and Mitre. I mean that's just [expletive]. Huge hole in LF....

Look at this lineup:

Hairston

Walker

DLee

Dunn

ARam

Burnitz

Nomar

Barrett

Look at the L/R balance. Look at only 2 whiff machines, both of whom walk at excellent and good rates. Nomar would have no pressure to perform, which I bet he will, at least better than Neifi. That's a championship lineup.

hehe, i think that topic was in another thread, or another part of the thread brought up by mizzou, and obviously ZZ, we had the same lineup...I made some remarks that this lineup has a 350+OBP 1-7, 800+ OPS 2-8 and a 950+ OPS 3-5

Hendry has to press the trigger on this deal, no ifs ands or buts about it.

I'm still not even sure there's a trigger to pull on this one. Bruce didn't just say that Hendry wouldn't do Hill straight-up for Dunn, he said that there hadn't even been an offer made.

I'm working at the game and I can't linger, but I can tell you no such deal has been offered or accepted by anybody. The Cubs would not trade Hill straight up for Dunn, let alone offer additional players. This deal is not happening. But it's always fun to speculate.

Nothing is hot at the moment. The Cubs would love Kearns, but they can't find a match. The Reds aren't the easiest team with which to deal, especially within the division. Nothing on Pierre. Everybody's looking for relief help. Hendry's got nothing imminent there. Talk to you guys soon.

Just to recap...

Hal McCoy is an HOFer and has been around 30+ years - I'm more inclined to believe him - he has longer and better contacts.

Houston is the only other possible suitor right? Hendry may be playing a waiting game.... Lot of time before the deadline. This thread could balloon to chitchat size by then.

Dunn really needs to learn to make friggin contact - sub .250, all those Ks, and his OBP of .380+ is very good, but not great. Just reviewing his stats.... He probably never will tho.

I really don't think I can stand to watch Dunn and CP in the same lineup everyday.... We've already led the NL in Ks for the last 4 years.

And what did he say, exactly? I don't remember which comments were his.

Don't forget LA, independently thinking, I would say they would have to be the favorite with their ridiculous AA team and depth in the system as well as the reds only having to play them 3 times a year.

I thought McCoy said on the live radio game broadcast (go back a couple pages) that asking Dunn for Mitre, CP and Hill was too steep a demand by the Cubs, but I wasn't sure who was the 'steep' one. Another poster said he heard it and that the Cubs said that was too steep a price for Dunn.

The other poster could be right - it never occurred to me the Cubs would say that's too steep a price and the way he phrased 'too steep' was confusing to me to begin with. Apparently I'm not that bright, or I was really into my barbeque chicken sandwich, and that does sound like me - I do love my BBQ. Or maybe for an HOFer he's just not that good a speaker - more of a write and edit guy.

That doesn't mean there was ever a deal in the works. My understanding is that Hendry was asked about the rumor and replied that it was too much for Dunn. It's hardly enough to conclude that Bruce is wrong, as closely as he follows the Cubs and as sure as he seemed to be. Edited by Geech

ohh and now the full disclosure. Well now we know that BBQ was involved we really cant put any validity in anything you heard because all of your concentration was focused on one sense...the sense of deliciousness.

I'm taking Bruce at his word, I'm not calling him a liar, I just think he may be wrong. Bruce is a fine journalist, but McCoy has been around longer and went on air about it. If I hadn't heard McCoy discuss the trade I wouldn't be stopping my bass practice to make this post.

It seems unlikely that he would go on the air about it if there wasn't validity to it - if an offer hadn't been made.

Lemme tell ya Nil - don't sleep on KFC's BBQ sandwich. Cheap, filling and a darn good sauce. Is it really chicken? That's up for grabs, but it tastes real good.

Maybe you mentioned it earlier, but what exactly are you confident in McCoy about. His contacts through being around for awhile, or his actual journalistic qualities, I'm just wondering.

I personally think Bruce is pretty credible, not to mention highly respectable as a pro. But (mostly out of sheer optimism) I'm going to hold out hope for as long as possible for Dunn to be a Cub

hehe, since when did bbq need chicken? Fried breading and sweet baby rays is all i need to live. KFC is good, for some reason im a freek and dont eat meat off a bone so I appreciate their ingenuity in creating multiple boneless entrees, all delectible in their own way.

That's pretty tenuous, ZZ.

??? Tenuous? Hardly. The head Reds beat writer, who is in the HOF no less (this is no Paul Sullivan) for the biggest paper in Dayton makes a special trip to go on the air, and thus on the record, about a possible trade, or in this case a trade that fell thru, and that's not good enough?

I wasn't there Geech, but neither was Bruce Miles. Hal McCoy likely was. I'll go with Hal.

And I resent that inference

I'd go as far to wager that Bruce is as close to knowing what went on as McCoy was. I think Miles is as close to Hendry as any of the beat writers.

Why do you think McCoy was "there" (wherever there is) and Miles wasn't?
