Given the fact that Kerry might be shut down...again...it may make sense for Hendry to hold onto Hill. Perhaps he'd be willing to part with Nolasco.

And may I also state that the fact that Angel Guzman is also hurt irritates the crap out of me.

So, lets assume that the offer was real, and the Reds told the Cubs they'd take those 3 guys for Dunn. Do you counter-offer? Maybe we could get him for just Patterson and Mitre (since it seems the organization values Hill most of all to not even offer him), or maybe even just Mitre and another pitching prospect....

I'd do Patterson and Mitre for Dunn in a second. Maybe the Reds would do Patterson/Mitre/Wellemeyer?

Itd definitely have to be some one with a much higher ceiling than Welly...I guessed Marshall, maybe Nolasco, maybe Pinto. Whoever is just behind Hill on the prospect list would be fine by me since I love the intial proposal.

I'd have done the original deal...but I'm trying to understand why Jim values Hill so much.

I guess the real question is...did the Reds make that offer or is this whole thread a bunch of horse puckey.

He has the best breaking ball in our system. He has the stuff as you can tell by looking at his exceptional K rates. The question is and has been control. He struggled with it, but this year he's made a major leap and if that continues he's a front of the rotation starter. He has a very high ceiling and this year he's starting to realize the potential that he has by continuing to get K's consistently, but really cutting down on the walks.

This is a lefty who has a 1.03 WHIP in over 100 IP this year in AA, AAA and the majors to go along with 158 K's in those 102 innings.

Just look at the numbers.

I just got here... can someone please recap the thread, or what has been said for me?

Poster said he had a source telling him a Dunn for Patterson, Mitre, Hill deal was going to be completed sometime between last night and tomorrow evening....lots of speculation...today, he came on and said he still expects it to be done by tomorrow evening, but Bruce Miles said nothing is going on right now...supposedly, the Reds radio announcer asked Hendry tonight about that rumor, Hendry said it was too steep of a price.

and most importantly (and infuriating) Bruce said Hendry wouldnt trade Hill for Dunn straight up :pukel:

I heard some of the Reds broadcast tonight, and maybe this has been posted, but a HOF reporter from the Dayton Daily News (Hal McCoy I think?) said that the Cubs did indeed offer CP, Hill and Mitre for Dunn. He called Hill the top pitcher in our system. He said the Reds turned it down cuz it was 'too steep,' by which I guess he meant our asking price (Dunn) was too steep.

They made a good point: if the Reds want somebody from someone's starting rotation, no playoff contender is going to do that. He said he figures the Reds are going to hold onto Dunn and then try to trade him in the offseason, when they have a better chance of picking up that rotation-quality starter. If they can't trade him, they'll take Dunn to arbitration.

So I guess they definitely did make an offer.

He also said if he was a betting man he'd bet on Randa getting traded.

Gosh, if we are one player away from, in this deal, getting Dunn I'd definitely also give up one of:

Welly

Rusch

Remmy

Leicester

Pretty much any prospect they'd ask for basically, Pie is the only guy I'd so no deal right away to really. There's no one in the pen other than Dempster that I wouldn't part with either.

I'd be glad to see Dunn take CPs spot. Mitre is totally expendable. Hill is a top prospect but to get Dunn I'd totally do it.

Hmm, interesting, isnt this the exact opposite of other reports weve heard...kinda gives me hope to think that they are in the throws of negotiations. Hendry might be asking for another player along with Dunn.

On that one link someone posted, the fans there were saying Hendry said the price was too steep. So it was the Cubs who denied this trade. I think

I think a lot of misinformation is flying around right now, which is pretty typical for this time of year.

Was sweetemotion really banned? That's a bit extreme, IMO. What if he really DID have a source that told him this? It's not really my place to comment on who to allow, but I'm going to comment anyways. To ban a poster for being wrong about a trade is pretty silly.

Now with that said... Hendry wouldn't do Hill for Dunn straight up? If Hill is THAT good in his eyes, then he should have been in the starting rotation rather than Williams.

I think there is more to his ban than the false rumor.

Given that Hill was supposed to start tonight (i think), he's going to need to fill in for Kerry next turn. Maybe that can be his showcase start.

Oh... I don't know what was said in the last 15 pages or so, aside from Bruce's comments, so I guess I missed something.

What did Sweet Emotion do that warranted getting banned aside from starting this thread? What did I miss? I've followed this thread all day....word for word....

Yeah this needs some explanation.

It probably got lost in the shuffle of this mess of a thread. I could live without another Dunn thread until we actually get him

I don't think we need any explanation.

I agree. As a new member myself, I hope he wasn't banned because he shared some information on a deal that hasn't (or may never) go down.

I didn't see anything of his posted in this thread worthy of banning.

Perhaps there was some kind of personal messages sent that caused it?
