Is there any remote possiblity that GM's, media writer's, etc are forced to downplay trades in progress in an attempt to keep other teams from outbidding the offer at the last minute? To ensure that the deal goes through....

GMs, probably.

Media writers, zero chance.

Unless of course they worked for the Tribune Co.

if the media writer busted the trade before it happened, it COULD be detrimental to the existing trade offer, correct? Especially in a scenario of one of the most talked about players before the deadline.

Also, Bruce would not purposefully come on here and mislead us.

I am even more interested after seeing that Bren was really talking about on the radio. If the Reds don't want the deal to be finalized until after the series, what is JH supposed to do--tell the reds announcer that the trade has been agreed upon, obviously not!!!

It is an old saying---where there is smoke, THERE IS FIRE!!!!!!

I would not be surprised to hear of this going down before July 31 or maybe after this series like sweetemotion says.

I just still don't get why everyone here thinks if Miles said it is not so, then that is the law!! Hendry is always been pretty good at playing his cards close to his vest!!

Sweet, come on out, talk to me man!!

Because Miles is right about 99.9% of the time.

I just went through 38 pages of this and am I tired.

I've always wondered why different people have different amounts of pages...it only says 28 for me.

So, lets assume that the offer was real, and the Reds told the Cubs they'd take those 3 guys for Dunn. Do you counter-offer? Maybe we could get him for just Patterson and Mitre (since it seems the organization values Hill most of all to not even offer him), or maybe even just Mitre and another pitching prospect....

That's not true, they just get more posts per page. There is no difference in content as far as the message board goes, just more bells and whistles, like smileys, BBcode, etc.

I think if Bruce Miles was uncertain, he wouldn't have said anything. Unlike many members of the media, Miles is a straight shooter. I'd trust him above most other sources. If Bruce says we wouldn't give Hill for Dunn, as outrageous as I believe that to be, I trust him.

Secondly, I don't think Sweetemotion can reply any longer.

My guess is sweetemotion read through some of the Dunn speculation and used enough facts to create a realistic rumor. Maybe he's more credible than that, but I doubt it.

And to think that Breneman wouldn't ask Hendry about an internet rumor isn't true either. Media guys often check out message boards to see what is being discussed. If this one is making the message board rounds, then it's likely Marty would mention it.

As much as I wish this one were true, I'm going to take Miles's word that nothing is immenent.

My proposed deal has always been as such:

Cubs take Pie and Hill off the table.

Reds can choose any two prospects and/or young major leaguers (from the not-completely-established class: Murton, Patterson, Cedeno, Mitre, Novoa, Wuertz, etc. - not Zambrano, Prior, Lee, Ramirez...).

Cubs pull back one additional prospect (if he hadn't already been chosen, I would pull back Guzman).

Reds choose a third player.

I'd do Patterson and Mitre for Dunn in a second. Maybe the Reds would do Patterson/Mitre/Wellemeyer?

I agree, Bruce Miles is as about as reliable as they come.

I'd have done the original deal...but I'm trying to understand why Jim values Hill so much.

I guess the real question is...did the Reds make that offer or is this whole thread a bunch of horse puckey.

The way it was stated earlier was that Hendry turned down an actual offer. Maybe he's just posturing to weasel some of the players involved.
