No ground lost but very frustrating to not lock this one up and gain ground on everyone.

Just get the #4 seed and use September to figure out the bullpen. They aren't catching Milwaukee

I mean we lost a game to the Diamondbacks. Probably won’t catch us (said that in 2023 too when they started beating us) but could have really put them away tonight.   Long recent history of painful losses in this stupid park

They're going to need to figure out the pen in order to secure that 4th seed

Cubs gonna end up using Assad, Rea, Peterson, Brown, Cabrera and Steele out of the bullpen in September 😅🤦

Wow, I didn’t think Friday could be topped, then Saturday happened and I thought that was the worst and then this happened. Now that the rotation is better I guess Webb is turning into a pumpkin to achieve universal balance so that the Cubs will never catch Milwaukee.

2. F CKING. OUTS.

What’s today’s headline?

Clay Holmes has a dominant 7 inning shutout?

Ian Happ with a huge 3 run home run?

Cubs positional players have more fWAR than the entirety 2025?

The Brewers, Phillies and Padres all lost?

Nope. The second blown save with 2 outs in 4 games after all the excitement from adding Palencia and Zeferjahn to the bullpen.

Damn, winning yesterday would have secured, at least, a .500 road trip, now it's going to be 2-4.  There's no way in the world the Cubs are going to win a Boyd start.

This is the type of road trip we’d expect from the 04, 2019 and 2023 teams. Not to be that guy, which is my way of saying I’m being that guy implicitly.

Boyd is gonna lay another egg.  2-4 it is.

Count on it, he's been terrible and the Diamondbacks have done very well vs. LHP.  It's as close to a unwinnable game as there is for the Cubs.

This team has the ingredients to win a championship too. Please don’t Cub your way out of this like a curb your enthusiasm episode.

Pitching matchup CLEARLY favors D-backs heavily today.  So does that mean we win?

I don’t mind putting Palencia in, with a 4 run lead it’s not an awful time. Obviously started out poorly but gave up the flukiest check swing double and a soft single up the middle. I might have pulled him before that last single but I don’t hate the decision.

Baseball is gonna baseball.  Two consecutive weak contact hits cost them the game and it took weird spin and a bounce off first base to do it.  The EVs on those were 62 and 83.  Hard to get too mad about things like that.

Why would they win, because baseball is stupid? I’d argue that Baseball is unfair but that’s because in a cubs fan. So no.

I feel great about how they’ve played and yet demoralized. They’re staring down a 2-4 road trip with multiple 9th inning 2 out leads.

Not even the remotest chance of a win, Boyd will be what he's been lately - terrible.

Moneyline on draftkings has Dbacks -106 and Cubs -101. You’re right, not even a remote chance of winning. It would take a miracle.
This is the overreaction we really need to stop. I will agree if I were to bet the game I would bet the Dbacks. But it isn’t a game the Cubs can’t win.

Cubs are 2-3 on the road trip but have outscored their opponents 39-18

Yep, this trip has sucked. Should be 4-1 (maybe even 5-0) if they could just get that 27th out. 2 blown saves in the 9th. Terrible. Before the trip Cubs were 60-0 when leading after 8. Now 60-2, which is basically a league average percentage.

Hopefully they got it out of their system. They’d be 4-1 in you only needed 26 outs. Hopefully Palencia comes back soon and Jed acquires a reliever at the trade deadline to fix this.

Don't know how much of an overreaction, Boyd' been awful, tossing nothing but meatballs.

As I said, if I were to bet the game I would bet the Dbacks. I agree with you that it is a rough match up. But to say the Cubs don’t have even a remote chance to win the game is a huge overreaction. Basically Vegas has it at 50/50 while you are suggesting no chance. Cubs are good against lefties and E-Rod isn’t as good as his era suggest.
