What a waste of a gem from Holmes. 7 innings of stress free baseball and two relievers you’d like to count on for high leverage innings in October can’t shut the door.

That’s what’s so aggregating. There’s a lot to be happy about with how they’ve played. Back to back 7 inning shutouts from Gausman and Holmes, Happ is heating up, the offense is phenomenal, and yet I’m not sure whether to be encouraged or if this is a bad omen.

I'm not even mad about last night's game. That was the flukiest horsefeathers. This whole road trip has just been unlucky for the most part. These things have a way of evening themselves out so get the bad luck out of the way for now and hopefully the luck changes in Sept/Oct. Webb was due to regress. Get the bullpen slump out of the way now too.

I think, encouraged. If Gausman and Holmes can pitch well in the playoffs the Cubs have a real chance to win any series they play. That is what I am choosing to take out of the two games in Az. Maybe Palencia goes back to closing. He had a lot of bad luck in that inning. If Brown comes back they still might have a decent pen come playoff time.

It wouldn’t be unrealistic for the Cubs to have gone 5-0 in the last 5 and then we’d be only 2.5 back of Milwaukee instead of 5.5 back.

Best case scenario is it’s nothing, worse case scenario is it’s the beginning of a collapse sparked by the curse of the pope that was unleashed by giving Sox fan pope Leo a cubs jersey with tormenting, fluky losses and tons of late inning blown leads.

Also, I totally get that over the course of the season, losing 1 run games is better than getting blown out. But as a fan, those 13-1 games are usually easier to handle than watching a game for 3 hours only to get kicked in the dick right at the end.

If there's something encouraging it's that the losses have been very close games at least so barely being beaten.

Worst way to lose a fan watching for sure.
