Wouldn’t Logan Webb be more expensive than Skubal?  He’s signed through 2028.

I would think so.  I don't think the Giants will trade him, though.

That's a helluva needle to thread. "Hey, teams who presumably need to upgrade at pitcher. What we want back is an MLB ready young pitcher!"

I think several teams would pony up  particularly the Brewers and Dodgers IMO.

Yes, but it would be trading assets on someone you have beyond this year. They have him 2 years after this. Look at it this way, would he be more expensive then getting Peralta this year, then another top pitcher next year and then again the year after that? I don’t think he would be. Getting him now eliminates having to do this every year.

Yeah , if Webb were to be available , you pony up for him . With that said , all indications seem to be he isn’t . For some strange reason , I think the Giants see themselves competing soon .  Not too sure that is going to be the case .

You rarely see teams in the playoffs, especially teams who have pitchers, trade from that immediate MLB depth. Pitchers die (figuratively) on a moment's notice. Usually when teams trade they trade from their surplus. The Dodgers aren't flush with young arms right now outside of Sheehan. And they aren't really great at developing pitchers right now either.

Maybe they would, but I think the ask from that article reads a lot more like "I'm not being very serious about my asks right now" which is fair. We have two weeks and the AL Central sucks. If the Tigers are going to trade Skubal today, you probably need a stupid offer to make it happen.

The Brewers traded away Peralta with one year left coming off a deep run and knowing they would be contending again, and thus far have been proven successful in that it hasn't seemed to slow them down at all (even though the guys they got might suck). I can't see them going in the other direction with seemingly everything still going exactly to plan.

If the Brewers put all their chips in and offered Made I don't see how Detroit passes that up waiting for an MLB ready pitcher.

Det would pack Skubal's bags so fast if they were offered Made.

I agree. I don’t see the Brewers Changing what they have done for years, now. Last year they were in a similar position and didn’t make any major moves. I doubt they do this year.

You guys will probably be correct and they will stay their typical course. I would be absolutely irate if I was a Brewers fan, knowing the org is sitting there with 9 top 100 prospects according to BA's midseason update, if they don't make a substantial move. Especially after losing Woodruff for the year and Harrison's forearm injury. Here's to hoping they don't and Skubal stays in the AL.

I think the Brewers will make a substantial move this year. I just don't think it's going to be trading Jesus Made' for Tarik Skubal.

I'll also be honest and say that I cannot imagine the remaining handful of starts Skubal has is actually going to cost the a top-5 prospect in all of baseball. I think it'll be super steep, but I think the eventual trade will be under that. I also don't think Skubal will be in Milwaukee.

My prediction will be the Braves. They have some young arms to trade and a host of pitchers that they probably think will be back next year at some point to replace them. Sale isn't super young. I think they're a team who pushes the chips in there.

Yep, they have so many fun young arms. Fuentes, Caminiti, Briggs McKenzie + their injured guys.

Cubs do add a SP, what will they do with the overload ?

New SP, Imanaga, Boyd, Taillon, Peterson, Assad, Rea, Cabrera

Taillon probably DFA, with Rea and Assad going to the pen ?

Could the bullpen eventually be from this mix by mid/late August, obviously a couple would have to be optioned.

Possible new Reliever, Rea, Assad, Steele, Milner, Roberts, Palencia, Webb, Thornton, Civale, Hollowell, and Rolison

Assad is still optionable. Rea to the pen. Idk Cabrera's timeline but doesn't seem like he's expected back soon, and Steele returning should be seen as a luxury at this point. Taillon and Boyd seem likely to get hurt again before the season ends. So there isn't really a ton of overstock.

Assad has options. Hollowell is optionable. Taillon is a DFA candidate. And they have 2-4 other arms you can begin to DFA with ease. They won't struggle to find people to vote off Survivor island.

Yeah they're probably the closest to giving the Tigers a "you can have your cake and eat it too" situation that the article seems suggest they want.

If Taillon is DFA'd after the trade deadline I'm gonna throw a party and you're all invited

I would think he's a pretty high candidate. They've not been shy about DFA'ing arms around this time that just aren't hacking it, and under the hood there just isn't much to make me feel like he's worth a roster spot.

The velo isn't bouncing back. He's giving up tons of hard contact and home runs. He doesn't feel like he'd fit in a BP role. He's in the last year of his deal. Maybe he shows something in his next start or two that makes you think "ahhh...maybe?" but if I'm adding three pitchers to this roster between today and August 4th, and one of them is a starter, then he's probably atop my list of goodbyes.

Yeah if I was the Brewers I'd say horsefeathers it and get Skubal and a big power bat. Gotta go for it at some point.

Cubs just signed Greg Jones and sent him to Iowa. Could be nothing more than cheap depth but he can play INF and OF and is a former first rounder and could also just be a replacement if guys like Long or Bateman or Triantos get dealt soon.

This is probably a little too far fetched, but it’s fun to dream on the cubs saying ‘horsefeathers it’ and going all in and using their superior financial firepower to tell the tigers that we’ll take javy off their hands to be our utility guy (after we trade Ramirez and/or Shaw for other pitching) as the sweetener to get skubal

Yep, very doubtful. But it would be so cool to have Javy back, strictly from a meathead fan POV.
