the failure at the trade deadline kept this team from having a chance to do something special.

there is obv a very small difference between these two teams and that difference manifested itself tonight by the brewers having a guy that throws 100+ be their bulk guy while the cubs depended on 35 year old journeyman colin rea.

just an unacceptably bad job by the front office, as usual.

The hottest hitter in April makes the last out of season...

Hope Hoyer improves this team over the offseason, be nice to return to the postseason with a better and healthier roster next year.

Two Saturdays in a row where both the Cubs and Penn State loss.

horsefeathers my life

I saw earlier they were up 1 at halftime but just assumed they were going to win. Losing to Northwestern at home ... oof.

Just didn’t swing the bats tonight gents.

it was a good season.  I had a lot of fun watching this team even with the frustrations.

and they will follow it up by replacing Kyle Tucker with Connor Joe and seeing what Independent League arms might be worth a flyer

Anyone but the horsefeathers Brewers.

I dont hate the Brewers.  They are like the annoying little brother that grew up to be bigger than the older brother.

Losing a Game 5 to get eliminated sucks, but now that we know we have a 90+ winner there is no excuses for Jed and the Ricketts not to tackle the future and put a winner on the field moving forward.

This series could have gone differently with Horton pitching (not to mention Steele). With those two back and hopefully with a real bench next year, we will get right back up there in the division again.

We need a horse SP. I know the offense blew it in the last game, but not a single starter could get through 5 innings in the playoffs. It's just not sustainable.

Nah the Cardinals are our historical rivals. The Brewers might be temporarily more annoying but they are our Yankees-Red Sox

Cubs history is full of chokes and failure. Since they’ve been a competent Team over the last decade, most of the winning history in our lifetimes they’ve recorded, Milwaukee has been far and away the Cubs biggest obstacle. They’re also Packer fans. F ck them for ever. If it’s between them and the cardinals, Go Cardinals.

4 hits isn't gonna get it done.

And yet that's been the case in so many losses in the second half.  Just a complete no show from the offense.  Look we went 4-4 in the playoffs, a couple runs from an NLCS appearance, obviously we were a pretty good team.  But the fact that the 1st half offense disappeared and never quite showed up again was such a disappointment and confusing to me.

There are no legitimate excuses.

But I'm sure Jed and Ricketts will find "excuses".

Maaaaybe, but pitching wasn't really the problem.

It was in the first 2 games, with Horton likely pitching in one of those games, and Boyd not having to go on short rest.

blowing their one year of tucker stings a lot less now that it appears as though he’s just pretty good and not like “top 5 hitter in the game” elite.

They have to start to embrace velocity/power arms. They’ve pretty much avoided them for 15 years. It’s beyond time to adapt.

It was for the most part, but in Game 1 and 2 it was. But still, they scored 3 runs in each of those games.

It’s over.  We had the better defense and position players, but needed a more dominant pitching staff and more clutch hitting.  The game fell the Brewers way tonight.

Rea did a really good job for most of the year....only paid him 5 mil and he has a rubber arm but to your point, wtf kind corner did they paint themselves into. Rea, Pomeranz, Thielbar, Kittredge are all serviceable but shouldn't be 'go to' guys at their age. Offense needs major work too and it's possible as we won't be signing Tucker so....get it done. Dodgers will beat the Brewers in 5 or 6. I would expect a Toronto/LA world series at this point. We are close, but not close enough in our current form.

Then give him a take sign until Uribe  throws a strike.  He looked wild.

Don’t need a take sign. Need awareness not to swing unless it’s in one spot.

Ultimately didn’t matter.. and it’s not his fault we only scored one.

Yet it continues to happen every year to some degree.  Something needs to change in the roster construction, but with almost everyone still under contract I'm not sure things are going to look much different next season.

Agree to disagree.  Not sure how old you are but the Cardinals basically completely dominated this division for 20 years and seemed like an impossible juggernaut that kept winning regardless of who was on the roster (actually kind of sounds like the Brewers now).  Beating them in the 2015 NLDS was so cathartic in a way that beating the Brewers could never be to me.

Non-Cubs fans actually respect the Cubs-Cardinals rivalry as one of the big 3 rivalries in baseball and I'd like to keep it that way.  Plus it's fun to annoy the Brewers that we are their everything and its not fully reciprocated.  But, hate who you want to hate.  For me personally the Brewers are not even close to the Cardinals in hatred.
