After this weekend I needed this.  Getting hosed all night but managed to find a way to get it done.  My confidence in Caleb and Ben Johnson is growing by leaps and bounds.  We have a coach AND a quarterback.

Caleb on pace for 4000 yards, 31 TD, 7 INT

And only 34 sacks

It's an awesome contrast in knowing that, if given a chance, Caleb and Ben Johnson will find a way to move the ball when needed.  Think we all felt pretty comfortable knowing the Bears would be in position to attempt a GW FG, something we almost never experienced with past Bears' teams.

Yeah that's 2 weeks in a row, needing a drive late in the 4Q to put the team in a position to win, and they get it done.  It shouldn't be lost on anyone how unusual that is for the Bears over the years.  It's fantastic to see.

I still have trouble believing this defense will go much longer without getting absolutely lit up, because the pass rush is so bad.  But giving up 24 points on the road to a QB that does have skills?  I'll take that.  I have a feeling when we get up against the Pack and the Lions it's going to be fugly.

This might just be the meatball in me, but one thing I'd like to see more of from BJ is getting in the ear of the refs regularly.  It's a "squeaky wheel gets the grease" type of thing.  I watch guys like LaFleur - he's in their ear constantly over calls.  It's not just personality, it's a plan.  You can't help but see a little more of what a coach is drilling you on, which can lead to one or two calls that might make a difference.

Definitely, time and time again we saw Justin get obliterated on cheap shots and horsefeathers Eberflus just standing there, not a word, nothing.  I'd gone nuts on he officiating probably drawing an unsportsmanlike flag in the process.

Defensively? Probably.  Offensively?  I believe the Bears will trade punches with them and put up some numbers.  What I see happening is the Bears becoming a team with a very dangerous high scoring offense and a very porous defense.  On a given day though, if that defense gets lucky with some TO's, they'll beat anybody.

I think a first year head coach won’t get the privilege of influencing ref calls that an established HC will get. It’s the same privilege of winning that veteran QBs get for roughing calls. If BJ can get through this season as a 9 or 10 win team then he’ll have more opportunities to do this type Of stuff down the road.

Exactly. It changed the momentum. But, Sweat did look to purposely whack Daniels in the head, so I'm not really counting that one as a bad call.

That was annoying but yea not bad. You just have to know it gets called like that.  Now on the flip side that late 2Q sack Caleb took certainly looked like helmet to helmet to helmet contact. Though the broadcast avoiding replaying a lot of bad or potential missed calls.

For as much as the refs were flag happy against Bears they missed a few other way worse ones that could have gone against Washington.  It was just poorly officiated.

Whatever W is a W. Great sign Bears could have several miscues, piss poor kick coverage, have several scores swing against them from officiating... And still squeak out a win. Why I'll almost never blame officials for a loss. Find a way. Bears did. And Caleb wasn't at his best either.

The kick coverage was driving me nuts.

So DJ Moore is still in Washington after being rushed to the hospital?

The Bears fan in me: Man, the Bears got robbed on that Odunze TD, completely changed the complexion of the game and made them scramble from there. Totally unacceptable call in that situation.

The Fantasy football owner who beat a team with Odunze by 3 points: Man, horsefeathers happens I guess, Bears still won, not worth being concerned about the details.

He was more or less a decoy outside of that first drive, something was clearly not right with him.

Also, QBR is 100% horsefeathers

Daniels has a pick and a fumble, fewer yards than Caleb and has a 69.6 QBR because 3 TD passes

Caleb has no turnovers, more yards, a passing TD and a rushing TD but gets a 37.2 QBR

QBR is a worthless stat that apparently gives way way too much weight to completion %

I mean that’s a TD to Odunze.  You can go and watch every game next week and see the OT lined up a little back of the line of scrimmage.  It’s the most normal thing in the world.  It’s the football equivalent of driving 5 MPH over the speed limit.  And Caleb took a shot to the head with no call.  Daniel’s gets a brush to the helmet  and it’s roughing.  These are absolutely game-flipping calls.

That penalty is only being called because of Juwaan Taylor of the Chiefs. He lined up in the backfield constantly and was also taking off early. The league had to make a policy for every team even though it was just the Chiefs RT at fault.

Its like the whole class being punished for one student instead of just dealing with the horsefeathers in the room. Another reason I hate the horsefeathers Chefs

Fine.  Wonder if the Commanders had such an alignment last night.  I'm guessing yes.

Yeah sadly, its a lot like veteran pitchers getting borderline strike calls.

I am convinced the refs on primetime are biased against the Bears, but not because they're consciously rigging the game or anything, but because the Bears are a bad team, with a reputation for being bad, committing penalties, and playing sloppy, and that gets in the ref's heads unconsciously. We've never been in a position with a QB or a coach to get the benefit of the doubt. I don't like that this is how sports works, but it is how sports works. Hear's hoping the Bears string along enough good play that the refs treat them like a normal team.

The Cowboys game is doing a lot of heavy lifting for Caleb. It's the only game where he hit 65% of his passes. This number would probably improve quite a bit if he leaned on his TEs more, but his comp% does suck, his accuracy is a culprit, and the drops play a lesser role. He playing good but again, the bar has been raised immensely - his 98.0, which would shatter all-time Bears marks, is 17th in the league this year. 17th!.  He is on pace for 4K, hes 12th in the league in ypg, thats nice. Although Mac Jones is on pace for 5300, so...

He is also 29th in success%, 22nd in 1st downs. Those marks need to improve a lot. He could be a lot more efficient, hopefully that's coming. Still a lot of uncompetitive passes.

I think these are a few of the reasons why Ben said he didn't expect the offense to be really cranked up until December. All of these things will slowly improve.

Also 20th with only 10.5 Expected points added and his expected completion percentage is 72% and he’s completing 61.6%. Not ideal. Baker leads the league in EPA with 65.
