So how does he improve vs them if he never faces them? (See also, Busch vs lefties)

He's a 23 year old with a little over a half season's worth of PAs under his belt.  And as hot as he's been lately his full season batting line is still below league average.  I don't think we're anywhere close to the point where a disservice is being done to him developmentally.

Also I don't know if I fully buy Trueblood's "Busch optimized his swing to only hit RHP" thesis but I do think it's interesting that he finally got something approaching full playing time against lefties in July and then now he is in his his first prolonged funk of the season.

There are 33 games to go and we are in a playoff chase. Now isn’t the time to play a guy so he eventually gets better at something. Now is the time to play the best player for that day. I am not sure Shaw isn’t the best player. But I am not the coaching staff or the manager. So if they feel Castro is the better player for this particular match up I am ok with playing him instead of Shaw with the hope Shaw improves.

Look how good Matt Shaw has been (in the second half) (getting starts against optimal pitchers). What if we put him in less advantageous situations? Surely the fan base wouldn’t turn on a guy for performing worse than previous output

Reds down 7-0. I know we’re in a fierce battle for home field but win tonight and i can feel a lot more chill about all of this

lol Seiya immediately takes a strike 3 inches off the zone

edit: and then takes a strike right over the middle for strike 3.  Stop guessing
