This was one of those annoying games I didn't expect them to win a week ago, but they had every right to win today.

I get that guys slump unless they're having a 2005 Derrek Lee or 2016 Kris Bryant season, but having PCA, Tucker, and Suzuki all have an extended slump at the same time is so damned deflating, especially since the rest of the offense is showing signs of life.

No, because there are very different and public facts and circumstances behind Kyle Tucker sitting for three games in a row.

Does there really need to be justification for the starting DH starting at DH

Not really because Tucker claims he is healthy . He is just slumping .  So if you sit Tucker because he is slumping I think it’s more than fair to question why Suzuki a struggling hitter played over a more favorable matchup based on splits

Your likely answer , a sample of 8 AB.

Simply put, Owen Caissie is the backup outfielder. Putting up a .690 OPS in his first 18 PAs doesn’t change that fact.

Haha , using OPS over like 4 starts to try and help your argument . That 690 OPS won them a game already . Don’t be ridiculous

At what point does Tucker start hurting his contract value?

I think that's already happened. He'll still get a massive deal but this extended slump is certainly giving teams a reason to push back in negotiations.

It does not matter if our 1-4 hitters don’t know what a baseball looks like.

Theres just a lot of hitters doing absolutely nothing right now. I wouldn't mind seeing Tucker go to the IL and call up Alcantara to play CF while PCA grabs some bench for a bit. I just dont know if these guys are going to be able to play their way through the slump.

Exactly , just too many slumps right now to sustain anything in terms of wins . PCA has been better lately , but no HR . With Tucker and Suzuki going like this , they need PCA to start hitting them over the fence again .

If he continues to be horsefeathers for another month, I doubt he even gets 250.

You never know. People might discount the slump saying he was not 100 percent.

Oh, no.

Just in case it wasn’t obvious that person was trying to be funny. He posts stuff like that all the time pretending to have meatball takes.

but maybe that is blatantly obvious to everyone

I wonder at this point if he is considering taking the qualify offer the Cubs will give him.  He might be better off taking that, and building himself back up and hit free agency next year.  I doubt he will, but I am sure he is thinking of it.

Lol.

Dodgers will sign him, deferring the entire contract until. 2075, and he'll be an mvp candidate all year 🙄🙄

It only takes two teams to fight for him though and some team will do something dumb

He'll be the top FA on the market this offseason if he's not extended. He won't get Vlad Jr. money, but someone will pony up.

On the low end they should play 95-96 win pace the last 34 games? Really? What have they done the last 70 games to make you think a worst case scenerio is 20 wins in 34 games? I agree that they can win that many to close out the season. But I would never suggest that is a minimum they should win.

Wasn't giving a prediction there, just saying even if we think low, they should win 20 more games with the upcoming schedule they have left and give them 93 wins which would be great for them, as noone predicted that the Brewers would turn into the 27 Yankees and go off like they did the last 2 months.

I gave my thoughts the other day on how many I think they should win with the remaining schedule at the very least. Which was 22-24, as the only teams they play that above 500 and still in a playoff chase are the Reds and Mets ( 7 total games).

so yea, cubs should be sitting around 95 wins at the end, and nobody should be upset at that.  Hopefully they're all hitting and pitching well at the end of it and can carry it into the playoffs.
