ok i didn't expect them to run the table necessarily on these final 4 games (that would have been cool but so it goes) but man, having 8 walks and only 1 run is pretty sick. don't do that

They really fell into the sinker trap today. No restraint shown.

I dunno they drew 5 walks in less than 5 innings against the sinker baller. They just....can't hit at all.

The Cubs only scored more than 4 runs once on this 8 game homestand (barring a 4 run outburst in the 9th). But will finish 5-3

Was hoping to win 2 and we’ll win 3.  Obviously it’s disappointing today but big picture - we did fine here against a playoff bound team.

1st inning Seiya gets a meatball sinker and GIDP.

2nd inning McGuire jumps on a sinker below the zone with the bases loaded to end the inning.

4th inning Dansby jumps on a 1st pitch sinker to end the inning with 2 on.

5th inning Tucker lunges for a sinker a foot outside on a full count. Would have had the bases loaded with 0 out. Seiya also walked after so who knows what might have happened.

8th inning Castro chases a sinker low with 2 on and 1 out. Caissie follows by jumping on a 1st pitch sinker to end the threat.

34 games remaining after today...

On a low end, there absolutely zero reasons this team shouldn't win at least 20 of them and end up with at least 93 wins on the year.

Sucks the Brewers turned into the 27 Yankees the last 2 months while they were just staying above 500 over those games, but cant complain much about winning 93 or more games if they can win 20 more against non playoff teams the rest of way.

Just need to hope the cubs overall can get hot and healthy heading into the final weeks of September and into the playoffs .

It’s Jaw dropping how horsefeathers useless Tucker PCA and Seiya have become. WTF happened to them?

Seiya:

Pre-ASB: .263/.319/.547. 25 HR, 77 RBI
Post-ASB: .188/.320/.277  2 HR, 9 RBI

Tucker:

Pre-ASB: .280/.384/.499 17 HR, 45 RBI
Post-ASB: .182/.333/.239  1 HR, 6 RBI

I think the large sample results say Seiya Suzuki is a clearly superior hitter

This has absolutely nothing to do with what I was pointing out . Kyke Tucker is clearly the superior hitter above all the players on the field today . That doesn’t make him the best option right now .

Counsell thought the small sample of Suzuki vs Priester gave him a better chance over the lefty bat againts a pitcher who has had more  problems against lefties .   Good for Counsell guess . I would have started Cassie personally , but whatever .

But that's not what happened. He didn't start Seiya because of 8 ABs over a three year period. He started Seiya because Seiya is a very good hitter and is statistically more likely to perform than Owen Caissie.

Good for them to find a way to win 3 of 5 , which was probably the best realistic outcome possible . Bats are still a huge problem .  Best thing that can happen to them is getting out of Wrigley for a while imo .   Looking ahead to the Giants , seems like they will miss Ray , but will get Webb on the last one .

I think it’s more likely that he started Suzuki who has been slumping over a pretty nice sample now , because of the small sample size of Suzuki againts Priester if you ask me .

So did Craig start Cassie over Tucker 3 games because he thought Cassie is the superior player then ?

No, because there are very different and public facts and circumstances behind Kyle Tucker sitting for three games in a row.

Does there really need to be justification for the starting DH starting at DH

On the low end they should play 95-96 win pace the last 34 games? Really? What have they done the last 70 games to make you think a worst case scenerio is 20 wins in 34 games? I agree that they can win that many to close out the season. But I would never suggest that is a minimum they should win.
