While yesterday objectively rocked, the Brewers did a pretty good job of minimizing bullpen damage, using just three relief arms over the two games. Would assume that means Ashby and Myers are unavailable today, and potentially whoever Grant Anderson is, but otherwise they should have all of their leverage arms ready to go.

Meanwhile the Cubs had everyone except Brown throw yesterday. Would assume he's available, though just two days off after 54 pitches Sunday is a bit odd for his starter background. Rogers has pitched the last three days, Kittredge four of the last five, Thielbar two of the last three, Pomeranz the last two. Palencia and Keller seem fine, as does Brasier, but need some innings from Rea (and then Shota tomorrow).

Assad can't come back up for Friday's game unless someone goes on the IL.  So I suspect the team is hoping for Brown to take that start.

I'd expect Wicks to hang out with the big league team the next few days.  If Brown gets called on today or tomorrow he gets sent down after and Wicks takes the start Friday.

That said I'd guess everyone but Rogers and Kittredge is available today if needed, though I'm sure Craig would like to stay away from Pomeranz too if he can.

The freefalling Milwaukee Brewers, with just an 88 team wRC since Sunday, had a good run earlier in the season, but are showing us who they truly are.

As analytics show us; sample size is incredibly important.  😏

Any word on if Horton will miss a start?

If I were the Cubs, I would have him skip a start even if he feels fine.  Use this as an opportunity to give him a bit of extra rest.

I’d also rather his blister be 100% healed instead of 95% and risk an unlikely injury if that’s at all the case. This is the first time since April there won’t be 2 number 5 starters in the rotation and I want it to stay that way.

Same.  The next three opponents are the Angels (19th in wRC+), the Giants (22nd), and Rockies (30th), and then Horton could come right back at the start of September when rosters expand.  This is probably the last best opportunity we're going to get to get him a breather without adversely impacting the big league team too much.

and here I thought we were anti-coddling in the game threads

Stop trying to coddle the anti-coddlers. If they cant deal with a different opinion on a message board, they will never succeed in real life.

Assad for Horton, freeing up Brown for relief work.  Send Brown down after LA, and get Wicks a spot start against SF, who are *awful* against LHP.

Wicks is awful at pitching so that would be a fun matchup.

Dodged a bullet in Suarez. When he's hot and when he's not.

Is this what is happening? I mean, it makes sense. Honestly, if Assad can only replace an injured player, I hope this is the move. If not, that means someone else is injured. I just have t seen anything official. Maybe Assad is here as precaution, and Horton won’t miss a start. But, honestly, he should just shut things down for a few starts.

I've been worried about innings for Horton all year, but he's already exceeded what I expected and seemingly got better the more he pitched.....so what do I know.
