The Cubs have to play above 500 ball to get to 90 wins. The division is effectively decided IMO but that last week against the Reds and Mets is going to be a gauntlet. Let's win like 25 r 30 games and make them not matter, k?

So is Tucker getting the full day off or just this game?

If it were my choice, I'd sit him the whole series and have him ready for the west coast trip.

Wouldn't mind this. I think he's been really good against the Angels in his career.

I think he's almost assuredly getting tonight off, and probably tomorrow too. Caissie doing what he did certainly helps.

To be honestly, IDC about the division. Once the playoffs start, everything resets.

As much as I've been down on the Cubs recently, I do want them to make the playoffs.

Owen Caissie's HR today was a Wrigley Field unicorn. Wouldn't have went out of any other park.

Interesting.  I would not have thought that.

They have a 9 game west coast trip against 2 teams under 500 and the worse team record wise after this series, on paper they should win at least 6 of them.

Then in September, 25 games, outside of the 7 against the Reds and Mets, the others are all under 500 and basically the bottom of the NL record wise ahead of the Rockies, so none of them are sniffing a playoff shot.

So, conservative side no worse then 12-6 against the non playoff contenders.

So, even if they just go 4-3 against the Reds and Mets they should on the low side be able to win 20-22 games after this series for over 90 wins total IF they can just get back to playing good baseball again.

The schedule is way in their favor as far as teams they play after the Brewers, just need to start playing better baseball and start hitting better.

Of course it would have. Any other park wouldn’t have wind blowing in knocking 10 feet off the distance.

Castro's HR was:

-First multi-run HR in 8 games for the Cubs (last was a 2 run Shaw HR in loss to St. Louis)

-The second 3+ run HR since July 25th, 22 games ago (other was 3 run HR by Busch in win over St Louis 8/9)

Every game against the Brewers is like Game 5 of the 2017 NLDS.

That game was definitely my "OK, just because we won the title doesn't mean these playoff games aren't trauma-inducing anymore" game

9.0 games back and only 38 games remaining. He’s got to save his bullets for the Wild Card race and we need the healthiest version of Tucker we can get for the home stretch.

Or this series.

They needed to win at least 4 of 5 for any realistic shot of this division.  They blew the 1st game so Counsell threw in the towel.  Tucker sitting is the lineup version of putting your worst pitcher in the game when trailing late to save better arms for later.

Why this wasn't done before this series nobody knows.  Hurt or not the timing makes no sense.

Tucker hasn’t been effective. Sitting him right now is not throwing in the towel. It can be argued that if he starts over Caissie today that we most certainly lose.

Totally how the Dodgers won, right?

Tucker has a career .999 OPS against the Angels, I say just rest him until then. Maybe some familiarity will help get him going. This is assuming he isn't hiding an injury, of course.

So if Amaya is on the 10 day IL that means the expectation is he comes back again some time this season?  That would be amazing.  I thought it was a wrap after that injury
