This is the mediocre, 6th starter, swingman, 4-A level Javier Assad that I have been waiting for all season, and like clockwork, the hype equals my hope.  Yuck.

We'll always have those great memories of april and may as the glory days of Jed's time as Cubs gm.

dont worry we have him for a minimum 3 more years after this collapse too

This doesn’t feel like a team on pace for 90+ wins. This feels like a scuffling 83 win team that we’ve been like every year since 2017

It's a simple issue with Assad. He's facing a team that has a high batting average and doesn't strike out. His stuff + Toronto's identity on offense, wasn't a good matchup for Assad to begin with.

After Clement's 3-run home run, Assad threw 42 of 59 pitches (71%) for strikes (Alan Porter has a good reputation for a good zone as well).

So, when a pitcher throws in the low 90's, and doesn't have a wipeout secondary pitch, it doesn't do well when he is throwing 71% pitches for strikes. Toronto knows the ball is going to be in the zone.

Long story short, Assad is throwing way too many strikes, and he got paid for it.

Look people can hate on Assad for a variety of reasons but playing a top 3 offense in the league on the road in his first start of the season mid-August is a tough assignment

Kinda wish I was one of those posters who could overreact to one game sample sizes to prove a particular negative opinion about a member of the cubs.

They've been playing .500 ball for like 2+ months now.  But I'm sure the next time they win a game you'll remind us how great they are

Just a garbage organization from top to bottom. Maybe an embarrassment of a summer like this and missing the playoffs will actually light a fire under their ass.

Early in the year a 4 run deficit was nothing, at this point it's Mt. Everest.    The pitching is not the problem on this team.
