At least we’ve been able to see that Kyle Tucker isn’t worth the $500 million the a Ricketts family isn’t going to give him. Am I right?

Don’t worry he’ll sign with the Red Sox and be awesome again

I told you Dansby will be committing bonehead plays down the stretch. I stated this a couple of days ago on the pattern this team has done the last 2 years. He D always sucks down the stretch

At least it's not the horsefeathers Cardinals.

Yeah but for me they're starting to get close, the Brewers are pesky bastards.

I don't know to laugh or cry at this, because it's spot on.

Crazy that they may end the night just a few percentage points ahead of the padres for the #1 wildcard spot if they hold the lead. Real possibility of them even falling out of the wildcard altogether

You don’t stop playing a young player leading the NL in WAR down the stretch

We can respectfully agree to disagree on that point. He’s not getting the job done. Period. Allow him time to work with the batting coach (I believe that’s what they’re there for), and work through it that way. Not as a detriment to the team. I like the kid - tons of talent and potential obviously. However, he’s not getting the job done - gotta do what’s best for the TEAM not to please the fans because he’s popular or afraid you’re going to hurt his ego.
just my thoughts - I’m not saying you’re wrong in your statement. Just respectfully disagree. Thank you for sharing and commenting. Hopefully they can show some signs of life as a team - soon.

the team is better with his defense on the field

yeah this is starting to feel like a collapse. they deserve it so whatever

It’s not being negative saying these things - it’s the truth. I agree with you. This is more than a slump - this is a collapse and spiraling downward in a hurry!

Counsell has to make some hard decisions in my opinion: gotta sit some guys down and move that lineup around, move guys up and down - something to stop the bleeding. It appears that Milwaukee hired and kept the real leader of that staff - Pat Murphy, while we got the “other guy “ 🤷‍♂️

I imagine even the most stoic are feeling pretty uneasy about this season. I mean it was just 2 years ago when we watched in disbelief as they blew a 90% chance to make the playoffs... what seemed unfathomable just 2 weeks ago is starting to look pretty plausible.

I may be wrong about this but they have to be seeing the lowest% of 4 seams right now, especially in the zone. Pitchers are absolutely killing us with non-fastballs right now. None of them can do any sort of damage to breaking or offspeed stuff right now.

That is definitely hard to argue; however, one should contemplate this:

Although his defense is superb, is it helping them save more runs than the lack of production he’s exhibited at the plate? In my opinion, his lack of production at the plate is a detriment more so than him playing good defense. Castro would be a better option because he’s a solid defensive player and right know, a much better option offensively.

Pete’s defense alone is more valuable than Castro as a whole even if Pete slumps the rest of the season

Shaw has been good.

Gotta have love for Nico man!! He’s been the only consistent player this season.

Like I said - he’s a superb defensive player for sure. I, like many, am beyond frustrated with the team as a whole right now. They’re getting passed tonight for the top wild card spot. Like last couple years, it seems like they could miss out on the postseason yet again. Just sad and disappointed

You don’t play a 0.3 WAR player over the NL’s WAR leader who can help your team win in a ton of ways. You just don’t.

Willi Castro isn’t fixing this team’s problems. If your top four hitters stay in this slump, the Cubs won’t win.

Every day around this time I convince myself that the offense will get going again, the slumps are not forever and they are clearly better than they’ve played.  And then the next game starts and we’re popping up mistake pitches over the heart of the plate and it feels like we’ll never get it going.

Even though the Brewers don’t even matter for us anymore their continued historic play makes it even worse as it just feels like the universe is conspiring against us for some reason.  Then I think about what a cesspool Chicago sports has been for going on 8 years now and I wonder what we’ve done to deserve this.  We did get 4 championships in the 2010’s which is better than most cities can say in a given decade but I think we’ve more than made up for that by having 2 total playoff wins (4 if you include the White Sox in the last 8 seasons). I don’t think the city deserves another playoff missing collapse so hopefully the Cubs get it together soon and make it, even if we just lose 2 straight games scoring 1-2 runs like we did in 2018 and 2020.

Prior to July, in the 56 1/2 years the Brewers had existed, they had won 11 straight games twice, in 1987 and in 2021. They now have 2 win streaks of 11 games in the past 5 1/2 weeks.

It's the good version of the White Sox having the two longest losing streaks in the history of their franchise both take place in the 2024 season.

What makes the collapse bad isnt necessarily just the team. Its more the fact that this is a top 3 market thats making money hand over fist and they have the nerve to cry poor while upping ticket prices, concession prices and the overall fan experience. Then when its time to reinvest in the team and actually sign guys who will win games TR crys about the luxary tax and Jed says "yes Mr. Ricketts ill save you some money for a little morsel of bread". Jed has to be the biggest weasel in all of sports, a spineless roach of the highest order and his next man up Carter Hawkins isnt any better. Just fails upwards despite doing nothing useful because he brownnoses his way to jobs.

We as fans were conned by TR. He got his WS and he will ride that forever and continue to put out mediocre products on the field to save a buck and line his pockets. I mean a family of 4 cant even afford to go to a game anymore without spending an arm and a leg and this is the garbage we get every year now.

I wish Shaw was at 2b, Nico at SS, and Dansby someone else's problem.  All dreaming aside, Shaw has been the story of the 2nd half.

If any drastic change is to happen its Mo or Caissie for Seiya. You cant get a 400 OPS out of your DH.

Seiya to LF, Mo at DH and IMO the Cubs get better.  They'd never do that to a vet like Happ but the truth is, the Cubs need a guy that can spray singles and doubles and I'd already take Mo's bat over Ian's
