Pressly isn't great or anything but he deserves better than being on that list

Corrected with my next post.

I know people are pissed at Pressly, but he was riding 23 1/3 IP with a 0.77 ERA over his last 25 appearances. One HR doesn't make him a "washed up bum"

The good thing about being consistently negative and pessimistic is that every time something bad happens you get to like, claim sort of credit for being right about it.

the bad thing is that, given that we have the best record in all of baseball, it doesn’t happen very often.

If the Cubs want a cheap bullpen addition at the deadline, the guy they are facing right now is pretty intriguing.  Been saying it in the trade thread for a while.

Collins batting clean up, followed by Durbin the Brewers are vaunted alright, they're a good team.  But, sooner or later the lack of punch in their lineup is going to catch up with them.

Good news, the Brewers made an out without scoring yet.  26 more outs and 1 Dodgers run to go

Seems like they’ve been playing the Dodgers exclusively since June.

The expectation shouldn’t be for the pen to be Superman, it should be not stranding 10 base runners and the home run or bust habit.

Agreed on the bullpen. Getting this many base runners is going to lead to success, whether you call it a lack of clutch or bad sequencing is a different conversation.

To be fair it’s only the 2nd game he’s allowed an earned run since May 6th

That great and all but just something about him that I just dont like seeing him pitch late in close games, kinda like Turner situation.

🤷‍♂️

But it was predictable!

Here comes the speech cops again.  I am not "consistently negative and pessimistic".  I was pissed he blew the lead, which seemed entirely predictable given his inconsistent performance all year long

He hadnt allowed an earned run in literally a month. I understand we all saw him do a few bad things at some point this year, but if we can shrink sample sizes to call out peoples slumps, we should be consistent and say he’s been (‘consistently’) fine for a good stretch here.

Drew Pomeranz another guy on the list of "might have been nice to have him start an inning that included a really tough lefty" guys in our bullpen

Of course this inning includes at least 2 of those

Having him face the top of the order and 3 of 4 lefties instead seems like sound logic to me

I'm not DFA'ing a guy who has been nails for the past two months. You all need to sit down

They shouldn’t dfa him, but you are exaggerating his effectiveness. He has dodged a lot of bullets when he pitches. I have no idea why CC doesn’t use Brasier more. Pressley shouldn’t be dfa but he isn’t nails either

But when I suggest that the Cubs are a bottom 10 team vs LHP since end of May I'm told these sample sizes don't matter and we should look at the entire body of work.

Pressly's entire body of work is just okay as a Cub.  Some good, some bad.  But not someone I want to see in a 1 run game in the 7th inning, just IMO.  They have better options.  He's also what, a year or two removed from being a closer and that's what he was brought here to be.  So I think it's fair to say he's a little washed up.  Calling him a bum is a bit much though, I can admit that.

Brewers will lose today, I'm sorry but, that line up is far from a playoff team.

For like a month straight you've been trying to speak this into existence.

The lineup is not that bad. They have about 6 regular above average hitters.

DFA, DFA, DFA,

Don't need to DFA him, just stop pitching him late in close games is all.

He's a 5th-6th inning guy now or when games aren't close late.

Of course they'll lose on a day Cubs could lose too 🙄

Even his FIP/xFIP numbers have been really good over the past 25 appearances
