I am not sure what you mean by me being too much in protest mode, but I do know most posters share my views politically, here. So going back to baseball, I try to seperate my view of a ballplayers and how he plays the game from my view of him personally. I know there are a lot of bad actors in sports and frankly everywhere. So hard for me to get worked up if the Cubs did trade for Chapman. I don’t like him personally, but I wouldn’t disown the Cubs if they did trade for him.

I wouldn't either, but it sure as heck would take a lot of my enjoyment out of it and if I'm not enjoying then why watch?

You do you. I didn’t like Chapman in ‘16 either. But I sure enjoyed that season. I want that enjoyment again.

Didnt think it would happen, means they are going full rebuild?

They will probably target Kyle Tucker next offseason .

Why do people think this after the trade? Genuinely asking. Devers relationship with Boston was irreparable. That’s the only reason they moved him imo

$300 mil dh off the books for Boston. Sucks for the Cubs tho, as mentioned earlier Boston will be 100% in on Tucker now

The positive is that between the Giants and the Red Sox, one of those teams operates far closer to how the Cubs do (Boston) financially. SF has felt like for a guy they liked, they'd try to overpay some to get him, at least recently. For all of the doom and gloom when it comes to how Ricketts spends, Henry is from the same ilk. If we are worried about Henry going all in for Tucker, Id assume Ricketts would too. If we are afraid Ricketts wont, we'll, Id hold the same concerns if I were a Red Sox fan about Henry, if that makes sense. The two share similar M.O.s

Boston maybe 4th in the AL East at 37-36, but they are only .5 games(ish) out of the wildcard. I don't believe they're selling.

I just believe they got tired of Devers. Not happy with being DH, not willing to play 1B, and came out stating he was a 3rd baseman even though Bergman is the better 3rd baseman. I just believe Boston said enough.

While I don't believe the return is great from San Francisco, getting off of his contract for that many and above $30 Million for each season, I think Boston would be happy for that.

I would make a very competitive offer for Garrett Whitlock.  I know the Cubs have a great bullpen but this would give them another big time weapon back there.  He also won't cost much from a prospect standpoint and only has a $4.5 million salary.

Jokes on the Dodgers - they paid $18 million for Scott and the Cubs could get someone better for a fraction of that price.  Also controllable through '26 and if he plays well, club options in '27 and '28.

Imagine:  Pomeranz/Whitlock/Keller/Palencia with Hodge, Pressly, Flexen on standby.  That's a dominant bullpen

For a major need like starting pitching and maybe a right handed bat, I'd go elsewhere.  Gallen would be at the top of my list but that would cost a bit.

Kind of hard to sell your self to other top free agents when you just sold off one of the best bats in the league not even half way through his contract. Not really the best look, my assumption is that they would stay out of free agency and just go all in on their youngsters.

The Cubs arent signing Tucker. Read the tea leaves guys. He was always going to be a rental. The whole time Jed has basically alluded to this fact, he just won't come right out and say it.

There are no tea leaves whatsoever. Jed has never alluded to Tucker being a rental, as a fact. Only those who want to be negative about everything read or listen to anything Jed says and turn it into a negative statement.
That said, Cubs still might not get Tucker after this year. I think they have a better chance than any other team in the game. But even the best chance is probably only a 30-35% chance. I just disagree it is a forgone conclusion he will not be here after this year.

Kinda unsurprising for San Francisco since they were pushing hard for Ohtani and Soto.

Sneaky good haul for Boston, too.

Appears it could be a sneaky good haul, out of curiosity I looked at the return for Betts.  Not sneaky good, just plain not good, in the end it appears to netted a back up catcher - Connor Wong - very not good.

The second one is fellow ex-Cub Justin Wilson

An example of a guy I have no interest in. I know that isn’t your point. But to me Justin Wilson no different than any pen arm the Cubs currently have. He is a middle relief pitcher who may or may not be good the rest of the year.
