tough assignment tonight. Skubal has not given up a run in his last two starts. He's in vintage Kershaw/Hershiser mode.

Extraordinarily tough pitching, I'm not even going to call match-up, mis-match, what does give me some hope is Tigers' bullpen is vulnerable.  Plus, their lineup can be held down, it's not as solid as the Cubs lineup and no where near as good as the Dodgers, Padres or Diamondbacks lineups.  I don't expect the Cubs to win this game, I do like their chances for the remainder of the series.

The current Cubs are 4-29 with 1 XBH (2B), 2 walks, 0 RBI and 10 K against Skubal.

The most successful are Jon Berti who is 2-4 and Seiya who is 1-3 with a double and walk.

So you're saying there's a chance? The only hope is the Cubs working the count getting his PC up, getting to the Tigers' bullpen.  But, Sukbal has issued only 7 BB's - that's horsefeathers amazing - thus far this season so, maybe, lots of fouling off pitches anything to get the PC up.

So tonight is a good night for a clunker for Skubal.

Anyone have restaurant recommendations in Detroit? My wife and I are heading up for the game on Sunday. We figure we’ll grab an early dinner somewhere before we head back home. Never spent any time there, so going in blind.

Leave it to MLB to put a Friday night game with two of the best teams in baseball on Apple TV

I’m not going to tell anyone how to spend their money or what streamers to subscribe to. Managing all the different services is a pain in the ass. But…why shouldn’t they make a matchup between the two best teams in baseball available nationally? Plus the Apple picture quality for their telecasts is gorgeous. I’m excited.

Tonight begins a stretch of 31 of the next 35 against teams above .500.  Hopefully our pitching holds strong and we do as well as we did in April (32 of 41 games against teams currently over .500, and that drops to 25 of 41 if the Diamondbacks lose tonight)

That's exactly why they are putting it on Apple TV to reach a national audience

I used to dislike the AppleTV+ games...then I started watching Severance and Silo, and the broadcast quality is pretty excellent...so I've changed my mind.

If you’re into BBQ, Slow’s BBQ has been a go to. (At least it used to be, haven’t been there since the Pandemic, sadly.)

In glancing at his game logs one could say he hasn't a clunker this year, last one was in August.  So, while not likely, he's due, why not tonight?  Realistically though, I'd say the chances for a clunker, if it happens at all, are far greater towards the end of the season than tonight.

While not a restaurant, there's Eastern Market Brewing Company which allows carry-in and deliveries.

Buddy’s pizza. It is safe walking distance from the ballpark  Detroit style pizza.

I totally agree with you that it should be nationally televised. I guess it comes down to you considering appletv as nationally televised. I dont necessarily subscribe to the idea that streaming is nation wide. Yeah everyone has access to it if they pay but not everyone has the money for Apple. My idea of nationally televised is Fox Saturday Night baseball or ESPN Sunday Night. Yeah you're paying for cable i guess but i find it to be more easily accessiable to the average fan.

Agree with you about Apples broadcast though. It is really good

I consider National tv fox and espn, not appletv, not everyone has access to that streaming service. Hell half the sports bars I go to cant even get AppleTV to show it. Streaming isnt national tv imo. Just comes down to your definition of it.

I dont pay for any streaming services though.

To each their own of course, but I find Apple infinitely more useful (and cheaper) than ESPN. As someone who really only cares about the Cubs, Bears, and Illini these days, I can probably count on two hands the number of times I turn on ESPN in a given year.

Sucks, but tbf the Apple TV schedule until June was set before the season started when no one could have expected the Cubs and Tigers records.

For informational purposes, the Cubs don’t have another Apple TV game in June and the July Apple TV schedule was just announced and the Cubs/Cardinals game on July 4th is on Apple TV.

Both teams were expected to be playoff contenders and were favorites in their divisions before the season. This matchup was selected for the Apple TV broadcast because of that, not in spite of it.
