To each their own of course, but I find Apple infinitely more useful (and cheaper) than ESPN. As someone who really only cares about the Cubs, Bears, and Illini these days, I can probably count on two hands the number of times I turn on ESPN in a given year.

Totally fair. I dont watch a lot of games at home because I usually go out to watch them with friends and at our regular place they can never get AppleTV. It annoys the hell outta me. I guess thats personal bias though.

I used to dislike the AppleTV+ games...then I started watching Severance and Silo, and the broadcast quality is pretty excellent...so I've changed my mind.

The only times I’ve ever paid for Apple TV was when Ted Lasso was on. Apart from that, I have signed up to Apple TV about three times and those were always when they’ve given my a free 3 month offer after buying a device (currently have it for free until August so will be able to watch the Cubs today).

I think I should make the most of these next three months by watching more than only a couple of baseball games lol.

Both teams were expected to be playoff contenders and were favorites in their divisions before the season. This matchup was selected for the Apple TV broadcast because of that, not in spite of it.

That’s totally fair, but I still think there is an element of randomness to the games AppleTV select and not always because of where the projections say they will finish. Like on July 11th, they’ve selected the D’Backs/Angels game as the second AppleTV game of the day when Padres/Phillies and Giants/Dodgers are on at either the exact same time or half an hour later.

Well, you got me there. Perhaps part of the equation is hitting as many fan bases each month to increase subscription volume. I think when I looked earlier this year it seemed like the cubs had a game each month on Apple, potentially increasing month over month retention.

Yea, you’re basically correct. Cubs have had one game each in May, June and July Apple game. None in April. Seems as you say, they want to to hit as fan bases as possible.

During the postgame last night they said he is starting.

I don’t like that, but whatever.

No Busch, again

This is the one time I don't hate it.  Skubal is allowing a .285 OPS (yes OPS) against LHB this year and Turner has a .333 OBP in his career against him (ok fine its 1 walk and 1 HBP in 6 PA).

That said, PCA is in the lineup still most likely because of his defense, maybe you just put your best defensive guys out there and hope its a low scoring game that we win against the pen or something.

If you're into shows that have an air of mystery to them, the two I mentioned (Severance and Silo) are highly worth it. The former is more grounded in reality (though clearly "futuristic") and both hit on similar "I'm not sure what's happening here" vibes. Regardless, both are among the best running shows right now IMO. Worth a binge over three months while you've got it.

I’m not going to tell anyone how to spend their money or what streamers to subscribe to. Managing all the different services is a pain in the ass. But…why shouldn’t they make a matchup between the two best teams in baseball available nationally? Plus the Apple picture quality for their telecasts is gorgeous. I’m excited.

What I will say is that you definitely cannot stream this game illegally online.  Don't do a google search for free online sports streaming.

Deep down, I'm a movie and TV show snob. Get me on Daniel Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood (or don't, my partner will hate you for it, because this will eventually lead me to a re-watch while I bark in her ear about how well he controls his voice) and I won't shut up about it for a while.

That said, I'm a movie-and-show-snob with a taste for the trash. Is Over the Top an objectively bad movie where Stallone's character's name isn't even set in stone? Sure. But I'll watch him arm wrestle for his estranged son's love at least once a year (my partner also hates this. Frankly, I'm shocked she sits in the living room with me).

Silo and Severance are great. Would also add Slow Horses and Shrinking to these recs.

Amazon Prime NFL games are televised in the market of the teams involved in the game to those without a subscription.
MLB could have negotiated for Apple do the same. But they didn’t.

Hell yeah, DDL is a legend! One of the greats to have ever done it.

Heads up that when you select the Cubs game, Apple TV have them mixed up. The D’Back/Reds icon takes you to the Cubs/Tigers game. Cubs/Tigers icon takes you to the D’Backs/Reds game.

Edit: Apple fixed the mixup a second after my post lol. Disregard everything I just said.

Edit 2: WTF IS HAPPENING? Don’t disregard everything I said before my first edit. Ah, ffs!

Edit 3: I think I might just delete my account out of embarrassment because it would seem like both feeds are just the pregame stuff and previewing both games. So just forget everything I just said.

I will watch anything Sly is in. My favorite actor going back to my childhood. Nighthawks doesn’t get enough love.

Dammit it would have been so cool if PCA got the first XBH for a lefty off Skubal all season

That was 6 feet shy of getting out, and to the opposite field to boot. I would've absolutely lost my mind if he'd gone deep.
