Jed’s gone from GeorgeCostanzaWorldSeriesTrophy.gif and trying his hardest to not have his contract renewed.

No other reason for this signing.

One week later I predict we’ll see….

There's plenty of jokes to make, but his statcast page looks solid-enough. He's 36, so there's a good bit of "yeah, but he like played in the MLB for a while" to that. But...it's something to hang your hat on. Wish the stuff+ was a bit better, but if you can use him match-up-style wise?

The best version of this is that the Cubs don't really need a lot from him. Maybe 15 innings of mostly competent pitching in what will probably be games they're down in. Then you can move on from him as you approach the deadline

He doesn't have to be a star he just has to get lefties out.  Seems reasonably likely to still be able to do that.

Jed and Counsell just told Luke Little and Wicks that they suck.

I approve of this acquisition.  Hopefully he can avoid the walks.

I mean all jokes aside, he's always had the stuff. We dropped the ball on getting a good lefty this offseason and Little and Wicks pitched like ass the last week. I still believe in both but they didn't earn themselves another look just yet. See if Pomeranz has anything or go back to the drawing board.

This is basically the same as the Tyson Miller pickup from last year. Same time of year, same team in Seattle. We're likely paying almost nothing for him. He works out, great. If not, meh.

Jed makes moves like this throughout the year every year.

Drew and I both went to Ole Miss, so he’s always been a guy I’ve rooted for. He was a stud in college. I remember in 2009 he a pitched a complete game with 16 K’s in the Regionals…. on 2 days rest. I know he’s older now and his best years are behind him, but for me, this move is extra exciting.

Pomeranz is joining the team on Wednesday reportedly.  But Wicks has already been sent down.  So I'm guessing Tyson Miller up today, Pomeranz replacing Roberts tomorrow?

Bummer if it's Roberts down. He's looked a bit like he's settling in, but Miller is probably a more stable version of "limits hard contact" from the right handed side as is.

He has been good. And maybe he isn’t sent down. Maybe Thielbar is dealing with something and the Cubs want to sit hin down for a week or two. 🤷 we just don’t know.

While certainly not impossible, Roberts and Miller represent similar profiles - they both should limit hard contact using a sweeper/slider heavy approach and work far better against RHP. Having both is probably overkill on that profile.

I would agree with Bertz that the likely answer is that Roberts will be optioned to Iowa. It's fine, it's not criminal, only a bit of a bummer from his stand point.

This would tell me that Pomeranz is replacing Wicks and Hollowell is a warm body for the game or two until that can work logistically

guy brought his own baseball butler, he can pay full freight

No one can convince me otherwise; Drew Pomeranz hired Tom Segura to carry his bag.

Maybe the As will take both of them for Miller 🤷‍♂️😅
