This is a really good question, I believe the answer is no though.  I believe on an administrative level we'd return him, he'd go back to being a non 40 man prospect for the Tigers, and then we'd acquire him as such.

If that's the case, that would be great. Keep an interesting young depth player and open up a 40 man spot.

Pressly’s market is moving quickly, with the Chicago Cubs being among the most interested clubs in the veteran setup man, who is scheduled to make $14 million next season. Pressly has a full no-trade clause and must approve any deal. As of Thursday night, he had not.

My guess is there's a deal done conditioned on Bregman going back to the Astros and/or Pressly waiving his NTC.  That's mean Bob jumped the gun but it's still likely to go down.

This really sounds like it's more or less ready to go and just contingent on Pressly saying yes.  I also liked this:

Trading All-Star outfielder Kyle Tucker to the Cubs last month did not stop Houston from shopping Pressly throughout the winter to create space on its bloated payroll. The Astros will almost certainly have to pay down some of Pressly’s $14 million salary to make a deal amenable to any club.

His mom is tweeting like the ball is in Ryan’s court now. His decision whether to accept the trade or not. I know this is rather common sense, but feels noteworthy at least coming from his mom. It does mean there’s validity to the report and seemingly the Astros and Cubs are content on a package, just waiting on Ryan to move forward.

Can you link the tweet?

Ahh. Good ol' mystery team.

Supposed to be a west coast team. Pressley said he doesn’t want to go east or west. So should be Chicago. 🤷

I thought they were done spending. I also didn’t think of them as a west team. But you are correct, they are. Guess we will have to wait and see. Wouldn’t shock me if the Cubs didn’t get him or Robertson.

Well he said he didn't want to go east or west, but I'm choosing to read those words as geographic directions rather than divisions. Worried he's going to want to stay close to home.

Anyways, today is a good day to sign Robertson regardless.

I saw this AM that the Rangers are considering having Jon Gray move into late inning relief.  That's either a very sad attempt at leverage or a very funny sign that they're tapped out financially.

Wake me when a deal is made, mlb is the worse when it comes to offseason FA signings and trades because of the million and one rumors and speculations before anything is actually official.

I agree. But the report on the mystery team was it was a team “out west”, which to me speaks geographically, not division. Who knows.
For once I am going to agree with Chibear. Wake me up when something is done and official😅

We can process of elimination this

Not Padres - no money

Not Dodgers - plenty of money, no space

Not Giants - Doval

Diamondbacks - Sewald (?) maybe

------

Rangers (?) - probably not or he would have already waved the NTC

Not Oakland/Wherever - Mason Miller, no

Not Seattle - Munoz

LAA - no one (Esteves)

I'm guessing LAA or maybe Diamondbacks

Am I reading the situation right? It sounds like he wants to stay in the middle of the country somewhere and will not go east or west. The mystery team is in one of the central divisions.

The other team involved with Pressly is the Tigers . I wish Bregman signs today , so we dont have to hear the same Cubs stuff every 3 days . Cubs arent signing Bregman

1/$14m left on his contract. Anxious to see the return. Looks like velo and K% was down last year, but still had a solid year. Hopefully he has another good year left in the tank.

Yeah, my in-laws are die hard Astro fans - they are dying to get rid of him.   My sister-in-law went to a Stro game on his bobblehead day and refused it.

That seems pretty harsh for a guy who has been there 6 years and his worst ERA is 3.58. But I guess he was second in the league with 8 blown saves (dumb stat, Clay Holmes and David Robertson round out the top 3), so maybe he was involved in some particularly memorable losses.

Yea surfing the Astro's forums, the general consensus I see is they are all sad his time is coming to an end and seemed well liked.

Well, you know how passionate fans can be.  Probably is a bit harsh but most Astros fans are done with him I can tell you.
