I don’t hate it. They forced their own hand here with how poorly they managed the roster the past three years and punting on opportunities to stockpile while maintaining draft capital. And now they have to give away that capital just to rise to decent. The more work they do now will allow for BPA flexibility with their first three picks.

Two guard specific interior lineman pretty much wraps up the Jenkins era who already had one (injured) foot out the door. If they sign the center then they can still bring in a tackle and maybe have the line set for the remainder of Caleb’s rookie contract. But they can’t get complacent and will need to keep bringing guys in even if that will be harder now without a 4th in 2026.

I'm glad they're not relying solely on draft picks. I also want them to use some decent draft picks on the OL. Jackson was injured and then bad last year (hopefully just due to injury). Thuney is not young.

But I do like these moves and think that adding these guys can make our tackles look even better

I see Johnson isn’t looking to depend on draft picks for his ‘25 offensive line

Never should have. It’s fine to continue building the line through the draft, but you can’t depend on it. There never was a reality where Caleb’s protection was 2 or 3 rookies after last season’s debacle.

At the same time, free agency is a crapshoot. You can be outbid by anyone. I say go hard after Drew Dalman when free agency opens. Dalman will already see the Bears are serious about improving QB protection.

So do we extend him for another year or two or just rent for 2025?

He's 1/16 right now.

I think they have to extend him, as his cap hit is nearly $27m

Good trade.

Lets hope they sign Dalman. Wait for a RB until round 4.

I'm of the same mind as MCF above.  This makes me think they're leaning toward Jeanty in the 1st round with the interior mostly shored up already.  If they sign Dalman, unless Abdul Carter somehow falls to them at 10 I'd almost be shocked if they didn't take Jeanty.

I can see them doing that but this is a deep RB class. Edited, just realized they don't have a 4th this year. So get one in the 3rd.

They still need a tackle and have a desperate need for pass rush. I’d be fine with Jeanty but the lack of quality qbs and the resurgence of the RB position makes me doubt he’d last to 10.

Assuming Jeanty and Hampton go in the 1st. The value at RB in day 2 seems fantastic this year, grab someone in the Quinshon Judkins/Treyveon Henderson/Kaleb Johnson tier. There were a plethora of guys who just tested well to match their production in DJ Giddens, Bhaysal Tuten, RJ Harvey, etc.

If Jeanty, Campbell/Membou, and likely Shemar Stewart are gone before 10 - this is the most unsure I've been about who the Bears are targeting in the 1st since 2016.

I posted it because thats more my dream scenario, but as JCF pointed out, jeanty may very well be gone. That being said, 10 could still be a good spot to land one of the top tackles or EDGE. The teams that need a QB mostly draft before 10, so I feel like there should be someone left over that the Bears could use.

Don't put it past Poles to trade-up to fufill a coach's wish. Johnson could very well be looking at Jeanty as his Gibbs, it would not surprise me.

Can't wait to see cwood's reactions when Jeanty is a Bear.

I don't think Jeanty will last until 10. But he is a weapon.

Jeanty seems like a luxury pick or a finishing piece to a team that is already nearly complete. If the FO thinks we're that close to a complete team I'd be surprised.

DE/DT/C are the obvious needs

G/T/S are the positions needing someone coming in to replace in a year

I was thinking a RB in either R2 or R3, but I even considered a second RB in R6 or R7. If the OL is right the players look better. I don't really like Swift or Roschon.

If they can sign Dalman then, I believe Jeanty, if available at 10, is a real possibility.  Maybe, go Jeanty, DL, OL, WR/TE with the 4 picks inside the top 100.
