What does this mean?

It means who cares if he doesn't want to DH.

If he didn't whiff on routine flyballs and throw the ball 15 ft off target on most throws to home plate he might have a point.

Via Sahadev.  I don't believe this was included in any of the recaps from Hoyer's media session last night, but today suddenly feels pretty important.

So Suzuki doesn't want to be a full time DH, and Hoyer doesn't want to have a full time DH.  Feels like that means either:

- There is not going to be an everyday addition to the lineup

- Two current hitters are on the way out.  For example Bellinger + Suzuki with Tucker coming in.  Or what feels more realistic something like I mentioned last night of Bellinger + Hoerner out and Brandon Lowe in

If Crochet is the pitcher who also comes in I would choose Bellinger and Hoerner out and Lowe in. Maybe then sign a cheaper right handed bat for the bench/spot start.

I would be so down for that Belli + Tucker + Suzuki, That is a killer outfield.

PCA too. Or trade him.

Happ/PCA/Tucker, Seiya DH, Caissie waiting in the wings.

That will work. Now all Jed needs to do is make it happen.

I struggle to think that adding one bat after subtracting Bellinger isn't the plan.  It doesn't strike me as logical or in line with how Jed has built rosters to say DH is an extension of the bench and that means we can't have a starting caliber hitter that doesn't have a primary position.  I would take that to think that the person can't *only* be a DH caliber defender(a la JDM) though, and maybe it increases the likelihood of that addition having more positional flexibility(Castro, Lowe).

The only other way that could hold true to me is if Jed sees that as the mechanism to break in the prospects, which for as bullish as I am on both the offense and the prospects themselves, seems like a fairly silly risk to take in a make or break season.

And the article's kicker: "But at the moment, both Wolfe and team sources suggest such a move seems unlikely."

Wolfe also said something along the lines that Jed isn’t wanting to trade Seiya but that it could be possible that a deal happens that is too attractive to pass up. He also said Jed does a great job of communicating. To me that sounds like a big deal could be possible and Jed just wanted to let Wolfe and Seiya know.

That's possible.  Maybe that's when Seiya's agent brought up the DH thing, but they probably wouldn't admit that anyways.  We dont really know who reached out first on this.

If they can score Tucker then I say keep Seiya and trade Belli.  They'll probably rotate guys anyways for rest.  If Seiya doesn't want to play DH most of the time because he's worst fielder of the 4 then that's his problem.  Who cares if people thought he was a good fielder in Japan, that's not applicable in the bigs.

They could also trade for Tucker and trade away Belli and Seiya and use DH to cycle other guys and go get a TOR SP and an extra late inning pen arm.

I wanted Fried but it's clear we were never involved. Ok let's keep the deals going, Winter Meetings.

Yankees rotation is now: Cole, Fried, Rodon, Gil, Stroman, Cortes, Schmidt. Someone's gonna be on the move from there, right?

Hard to say.  They need depth though.  5 SP doesn't do it these days.

Fried 8 years, wow.  Prices have gone up to say the least.

Not sure Fried going to NYY does anything for us.  Yankees trajectory seems/seemed to be two of Bellinger/Bregman/Fried, so we don't know if this impacts Bellinger unless we get some definition around Bregman.

I read that the Yanks intend to move Judge back to RF this season.  Interesting thing to say before a trade or signing but good for us.

Jesse Rogers just said that the Cubs have spoken to Suzuki's agent about a trade. Apparently Suzuki does not want to exclusively be a DH. So probably Suzuki involved in a deal for Tucker.

Remember when I said Suzuki could waive his NTC..lol

Hoyer has a mess going on right now with his roster, there really is no direction with this team.

Just a bunch of average players under contract/control, their probable best 2 hitters looking to be traded now, and no place to play their top prospects.

They do want Dominguez to be their CF.  But Bellinger would be great for them as Dominguez insurance and a starting caliber 1B.  I also won't write it off considering what they clearly had earmarked for Soto, but do they really want to give Bregman $200M right after paying Fried?

Now that Fried is in NY, love to check in on Schmidt. Bellinger plus a prospect? Alcantara/Triantos? Anyone else need to be added? Maybe another young guy outside the top 15? Bellinger is costly, but I don’t think the Yankees would consider him as negative value. If they did, leave Bellinger out of the deal and just trade prospects for Schmidt. Personally I think Bellinger is a perfect fit in NY. Could very well play to his contract there, IMO. He could play center and/or first. With that short right field he would probably hit 30 homers.

I don’t agree that Hoyer is a mess. He is exploring avenues to improve the team. He is involved in several scenarios. He should be. In years past he was criticized for sitting in his hands and now this year because the Cubs come up in several scenarios you are suggesting he is a mess. No matter what he does he gets criticized. Personally I am glad to hear the Cubs are involved in many things. I do worry about him actually making the right move. But right now I wouldn’t call him a mess.
