He's also has no major splits. He could very conceivably spell PCA against tough lefties.

Yeah that's where my head is at that he's playing one of CF or 1B against all lefties.

Is this a good thing or a bad thing for the Cubs Kyle Tucker hopes? Eliminates the main competition but lessens the likelihood of a Tucker trade? Unless the Astros find a Cubs offer so appealing they’re content to lose both players, it seems more bad than good.

Probably very good. It eliminates the Yankees. But also means the Astros remain needing a third baseman, you know, like Isaac Parades.

Can you even stay at a Motel 6 for $120?

I was capped at $125 when I worked for Pepsi.  It was tough to find anything decent under that without our corporate agreements and I left that job in 2019.  That's just crazy when the budget for everything else is so astronomical.  But hey, the rich get richer and everyone else can get horsefeathered I guess.

If Paredes is part of an Astros deal, they have no need to condition a trade on retaining Bregman.

I would think that if Bregman is about to choose the Yankees it means that the Tucker deal going through is more likely to go through.  The causation can work either way, the Astros have Paredes so they tell Bregman bye, or the Yankees didn't like how the bidding was trending so they pivoted to their next move.

I definitely believe this is part of their employee reduction program

Nah, lefty hitting infielder who can cover 2B/3B is a need in essentially every version of the offseason.

In a lot of small towns where minor league teams play, yes, you can. Will it be in luxury accommodations - no. But you can certainly find plenty of hotel/motel-type places with clean beds and bathrooms. I've stayed in plenty over the course of my career.

I'd be pretty happy with a deal for Tucker centered around Paredes. That should bring the prospect cost way down.

Please for the love of god do not trade Paredes and Seiya for Tucker, that's amazingly counter productive.

Why do you keep acting like a deal is for both? How much info do you need to read that says Suzuki is pretty much off the table. Period. Full stop.

He fits the bill if the Cubs stand pat or trade one (or both) of Paredes/Hoerner.  Not much in the way of reading the tea leaves here.

Rosenthal's article makes it sound like either, I think the talk of both is just bad reading comprehension on content aggregators.

Because the thing I quoted said "and" implying both not Paredes or Seiya

That's a reading comprehension issue. The article is talking about players they are targeting. Not a package being discussed.

Yeah, I think that's the case too. It was just the first tweet that I saw that had who the Cubs selected! Brett's being a bit excited there. Workman is an interesting enough Rule 5 pick. Looks like he can play SS some too. Feels like a different version of Mastrobuoni who trades hit for power.

  • Cubs add Tucker (Paredes, Wesneski, Rojas)
  • Cubs send Bellinger to NYY (best prospect we can land)
  • Cubs sign late inning reliever
  • Cubs finalize deal with Carson Kelly
  • (Hopefully) Cubs sign Sasaki

If Paredes gets traded, I think you have to hold onto Hoerner so that Shaw can slide in at 3B.

I know it’s not this simple as there’ll surely be prospect capital added, but spinning Morel into Paredes into Tucker in a matter of four months sure would be something.

The fact that it seems not just possible but likely for us to end up with Tucker and a fun SP and not have to lose Shaw, Brown, or Horton is extremely cool.
