he's cheap, so we've actually got a shot

Now we are on equal footing with the club that wins 95+ games yearly, just won the title with half a rotation missing, has the Japanese GOAT and Yamamoto.

I can’t wait to hear what our sales pitch is.

We actually managed to keep our Japanese import from last offseason healthy?

Yeah, I’m just messing around. Would love Sasaki, everything we’ve seen of him just seems incredible. No shame in losing out to a club in a better position to win now but hey, stranger things have happened.

If the Dodgers get Sasaki they have a rotation of Sasaki, Ohtani, Yamamoto, Snell, and Glasnow.  Has a team ever had 5 legit aces in a rotation?

The 1970s Baltimore Orioles.

2004 Cubs had Wood, Prior, Zambrano, Maddux, and Clement. Each of them had posted a 4+ fWAR season in the very recent past. (2002 or 2003). But injuries and time took their toll.

There was also the 2015-16 Mets with Harvey, Matz, deGrom, Syndergaard, and Wheeler. But they had an even tougher time taking the field than the Cubs did.

I don't remember who the 5th starters were, but for my money it doesn't get much better than Maddux, Smoltz, Glavine, Avery +

It is still hard to believe that group only won a single World Series.

I'd argue that Kevin Millwood was the stronger 4th than Steve Avery. But yeah. Those Braves rotations were absurd throughout my childhood.

Cubs are mentioned specifically in here as one of the six teams to watch.

Rosenthal namechecked the Cubs as well

The Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, New York Mets, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies and Chicago Cubs are viewed in the industry as among the early favorites to land Sasaki.

Sounds like the Cubs are a real option.

I've seen a few reports that the Sasaki sweeps could be done quick, but obviously his final signature will have to wait.

I'm surprised the Brewers aren't named. Just ran away with a terrible division despite a rookie coach and a 20 year old kid who looks like a potential 7 war player with one of the best pitching development systems in the game. I guess he wants a major market.

So the usual suspects.

It's widely known mlb teams have handshake deals with Latin international signings well in advance to official signing periods. I'm wondering if Sasaki.....

Remember the Kent Merker is God meme on here? I think it was b/c he blasted Chip Carey in the media.
