I think literally everyone called this years ago. Dodgers have that pipeline to Japan. Better get used to this because its going to keep happening.

Cubs did themselves no favors with how they operate and then were looking to deal Seiya to save a few million this offseason because Ricketts wants to save some cash. Terrible look

The owners don't give a horsefeathers about this.

Of course they do. If they can reduce an opponents dominance, reduce top end salaries, enact a cap and declare it is in the name of parity everyone wins. And by everyone, I mean all the billionaires.

But guys... Sasaki's $6M salary (or whatever the amount is) will actually cost the Dodgers like $12M including the luxury tax, so the joke's on them.  Ricketts wins again!

Isn’t his salary only $1 million this year with the remaining $5 paid in equal parts for 15 years starting in 2038?

I know no one is making a serious point to that end, but Sasaki will only count the league minimum towards the CBT.  He's getting a 6.5 million signing bonus, so for CBT purposes that's treated the same as the Dominican 16 year olds that signed this week.

Sad thing is that this year we were into Roki Sasaki, because he was cheap as horsefeathers. In six years, we won’t legitimately be into Roki Sasaki as a FA, because he will be expensive as horsefeathers.

Dodgers will probably extend him for 10 years if he's that good

I get why they call his splitter a grade 80 pitch. That's nasty and he could honestly just utilize a fastball/splitter combo and not really need a breaking ball to get MLB hitters out. I thought the second pitch in the video was a hard downer curve/slider when I saw it, but Rob says that was also a splitter. It sucks that the Dodgers signed him, but I bet he's going to need TJS at some point in the next few yrs.
