Indeed, but he has done it all game, so maybe stop nibbling on everything

JD and Boog are right that those weren't egregious calls, but those are ones that the young umps with names that people don't know yet would get correct, like guy last night. And Lance Barksdale. Otherwise the long time veterans are so so bad

Beating the Cardinals is fun.  I don't expect any amazing winning streaks to bring us back to contention (but who knows), but its definitely a more relaxing vibe post deadline.  No one has any expectations for them anymore, just go out there and have fun and try to win some games.

If the Cubs can win 1 of the 2 weekend games they will have broken a stretch of 0-9-1 in series against NL Central teams since early May.

8 more. All they need to get back in it is an 11 game winnings streak. They are at 3. Look out, here they come.

Man, take care of business tomorrow and we get a chance to go for the sweep on Sunday Night Baseball with Steele on the mound against Mikolas and all his weirdness/bad at pitching-ness? nowyouvegotastewgoing.gif

I don't want to get excited about this team because it's had a few stretches where they fell flat on their faces after showing signs of life.

But damnit, I'm getting excited.

Swanson not being completely worthless is making this feel a little different.  Between that and having a real 3B, I'm cautiously optimistic.

Drop em to 500 like they did us way back in May or June or whatever

The Cards have a fairly tough August/September.  Complete this sweep and they're probably dead in the water.

So let's do that.

Yeah on a couple pitches he had no business swinging at. Much better approach today (and recently).

I'd argue it's a bad approach If there is a pitch you can do damage on and you don't swing at it simply because it's not a strike.

I’d be excited if not for the DBacks, Mets, and Padres playing great baseball as well. I bet we pass the Cardinals and Pirates but still miss the playoffs by a few games. If we continue at the pace of the last 25 games (15-10) it still only gets us to 84 wins, which I don’t think will be nearly enough.

its not even worth discussing currently.  Its Cubs discussion forum so obviously feel free to talk about it (lol) but it feels pointless to discuss in their current position.
