Amaya may be getting some competition soon for next season with Ballesteros coming up.

Id call him up now. I know hes got a 100 wRC+ at AAA but i think its worthwhile to get him a look at the MLB level to gauge how badly they need to spend this offseason at the catcher position

He’s coming up? Where did you see that?

Ballesteros is a catcher much in the same way Kyle Schwarber was a catcher.

He can play the position in a pinch, and maybe you can get away with him starting at catcher for 10-15 games over the course of a season, but he seems ticketed for DH/LF long term.

I could see Ballesteros coming up next month with expanded rosters.  Catcher is an easy position to carry 3 at, and as a catcher there's legitimate value in soft skills and stuff he would learn outside of game action.

There's no reason to think he would be a positive offensive contributor in the short term though.  He is holding his own at AAA, not excelling.  That's fine it's been just over a month and he's 20 years old, but let's all be clear headed about this.

I can see this dude wearing out that short LCF in Wrigley in time.

Bethancourt reminding us what it's like to have a catcher that can throw out baserunners.

Bethancourt has been solid, great tag by Hoerner

I wish we had him at the beginning of the year.

PCA has been looking like a completely different hitter up there lately. If he figures it out, look out.
