I just wish those who think that way would respect those who think differently, instead of attacking them for their views.

This you?

I just refuse to dislike Sammy.  Too many fun times.  Who knows which of these guys were cheating and got away with it.  There’s 50 HOF “heroes” who were a product of their favorite PED cocktail, for all we know.

Also like everyone else has said, Sammy was a jerk just like many others.  There’s nothing unique or particularly interesting about an egotistical sports star.

The difference probably to the Cubs (besides his kid being in the org) is that McGwire admitted to his mistakes and the Ricketts seem to be obsessed with making sure Sosa admits his.  It's really freaking dumb but that's where we are.  There are rumors that Sosa was willing to admit to "making mistakes" several years ago and in return would be welcomed back into the fold but at the last minute Sosa backed out.  I have to assume that's still the same condition the Ricketts are setting.

I don’t want him back if he has to apologize to our horsefeathers ghoul of an owner for no horsefeathers reason.

Yeah the concept of Tom horsefeathers Ricketts of all people, who took over the team right around the time all the kids watching Sosa in the late 90s finally got disposable income to spend at Wrigley, being owed an apology by anyone is incredibly laughable.

McGwire works for the Cubs. Mark Grace was hired by Marquee 4 years ago (post multiple DUIs). The Giants retired Bonds number. Cleveland inducted Albert Belle, of all people, into the team hall of fame. This is unique treatment and the push to continue it is led by predominantly bad actors. If you're putting these bizarre 'he must humble himself' conditions around him returning to Wrigley, take a look at the type of people on your side of the argument.

Ricketts is like the dorky high school kid who nobody liked in school. Goes back to his 20 year high school reunion, now all successful and calls out the popular kid for not inviting him to the Senior bash after graduation.

He’s more like the trust fund baby that none of us ever knew because we are not in the .01%. Who thinks he worked hard and played by the rules to get where he got. He has no empathy because to do so would be to admit he didn’t earn a goddamn thing in his life and doesn’t belong except by accident of birth.

And he doesn’t appreciate the help “cheating” to get by. Sammy should get in line and be thankful he got a chance. Instead he jumped the line and must now show repentance for his misdeeds.

Just curious. What did the Cubs ever win with Sosa?

How many times did Ernie make the playoffs?

Would have probably made it in 1967, 1968 and 1969 if they had the same postseason format as most of Sammy's career.  I'm not defending or adding to any arguments here, I just saw your post and wanted to add that.  They finished with the 3rd best record in the NL all 3 years.

Noted, but his question was what did the Cubs ever win with Sammy.

yeah, horsefeathers that Mike Trout guy.

Sosa has more postseason hits in this (incredible) video than Trout does in his career

They went to the playoffs with him twice, so it wasn't like they didn't win anything with him.

And for most of Sammy's career, he was nearly the only reason to get excited about the Cubs. Certainly the number one reason to consistently tune and watch the games from like 1996-2002.

I'll sometimes play random games on YouTube while I am working, and I am always amazed at just how awful the lineup around him was for much of his career. Just brutally bad outside of he and Grace, and I guess I was so enured to the Cubs being bad back then that I didn't appreciate how awful some of those teams were at the time.

Though shut out of the playoffs, at least mid-late 1960s fans had Banks, Williams, Santo and Jenkins to watch. Four hall of famers.

I became really invested as a fan (as opposed to just being the kid of a Cubs fan) in 1987 or 88, and outside of the decennial playoff appearance (which felt more like an aberrant gift than anything), the primary reasons I ever had to feel excited to watch Cubs baseball on a daily basis was Ryne Sandberg for a handful of years and Sammy Sosa. And though Ryno was my favorite as young kid, Sammy was the most exciting player I've personally seen in a Cubs uniform. It was must see TV and I loved it.

Obviously the steroid thing diminishes those memories a bit, but it doesn't nullify them, or even close to it.

And the notion that he be ostracized by the organization until he repentantly abases himself to a repellent chode like Tom Ricketts (who wasn't even associated with the team until long after Sammy was gone) is absurd.

I will not have you besmirch the good name of Micky Morandini

I never really like Sammy that much while he played and was quite convinced he was juicing long before it was popular to believe so. But I was also quite aware that he was far from the only one. I did understand just how good he was though.  I also disliked Sammy for non juicing reasons.

But the day he left early in 2004 the whole Cub narrative on him changed....as did many of the fans attitudes towards him. And I thought it was hypocritical. I also believe Rickets is just placating to those fans.

I also believe that Sammy needs to get with someone to give him good advice on what to say when a mike is in his face...nothing new there
