Sammy screwed himself because he denied using steroids in his testimony to Congress.  I assume he was sworn in?  Therefore he can't admit steroid use or he could be in legal trouble for perjury.

He was good to the org and the fans in many ways but is also a cheat and a liar and broke the law in multiple ways.  I'm ok with washing our hands with him.  I was the biggest Sosa fan too.

That was 19 damn years ago. Perjury isn't some kind of eternal super crime.

And TF does he need to "recognize" to a complete worm like Ricketts?

He should just go back, have a press conference and tell Rickets to go horsefeathers himself

Apologizing or reconciling with the team/ownership is just a proxy for a decent percentage of the fanbase. I really doubt Ricketts has strong feelings about stuff that happened years before they owned the team.  Anything surrounding Sammy being recognized/honored is PR, and the motivation to trot out Sammy without some type of (probably contrived) reconciliation likely leads to a big chunk of the audience booing him.  And that's probably not PR worth doing?  I dunno the whole saga is like HOF stuff to me, in that most people seem to care way more deeply about it than I do.

You really doubt this doofus has strong feelings about things that other amorphous sacks of goo like him hate Sosa for?

Yes.  Said another way I don't think Sosa not being welcomed by the club is a Ricketts-led conspiracy, the extent that he does or doesn't agree with the people who wouldn't welcome Sosa back isn't affecting the way that situation has developed.

So if we live long enough, we can get away with anything but murder?

It depends on the jurisdiction. Most places, there's no statute of limitations on murder. Some places, that's also true of sex crimes or crimes against children.

And because this is America, in some places bouncing a check doesn't have a statute of limitations.

That's because bouncing a check is tantamount to that most heinous of all crimes in America, taking any amount of money from a rich person.

Our most recent ex president has.

I liked Sammy.  He and Mark McGwire resuscitated baseball even if they were both into PED's.  It was a fun time to be a fan after a lull in the game.  I especially enjoyed the 500 foot home runs in the Home Run Derby during the All Star break.  We all knew in the back of our minds something was going on, but it was too much fun to watch to get too excited about it.

I just want to take this opportunity to say horsefeathers the Ricketts in the roughest way possible. They are more vile and disgusting humans than some dumbass kid from the DR  could ever be.

and also, TT, if don’t think Tom horsefeathers Ricketts doesn’t hold some kind of stupid White man rich guy grudge against arguably the 2nd best Cubs player of our lifetime I don’t know what to tell you other than you are giving the douche bags who run the Cubsa way, way too much credit.

I can't believe after 17 years he comes back to Chicago and within seconds gets asked about steroids.  But I can't believe even more that he wasn't prepared to be asked about steroids.

He committed perjury and bought and used illegal drugs to cheat, not to mention corking his bat and who knows what else.

I'm sorry I sat on your sofa.

It was a lot of fun, until we realized we were watching the WWE.   The league was probably juicing the balls too.

No. If we lay low long enough and evade the law, we can get away with anything but murder.

I love Sammy and would want him to be enshrined in statue alongside Ernie, Billy, Santo, Fergie and Ryno, as long as it is the Dominican version of him rather than the Transylvanian version.

i want sammy to be back in the fold.

my hope and my dream is that during the initial press conference of his return, he injects himself with the largest HGH syringe he can find as a horsefeathers you to all the dorks who give a horsefeathers about steroids. mlb has players who beat their wives/lovers and people get their undies in a bunch over some dudes who wanted bigger biceps so they could sock a few more dingers? get the horsefeathers outta here.
