idk those 2 guys have/had lightning quick processing

the same favorable assessment of physical ability could have been made for Trey Lance for example but his elite playcaller opted instead for the middling tools guy that read the field better within the scheme

Which makes sense when you have the best RB in the NFL who is also an amazing receiver, two elite WRs and arguably the best TE in football. There is a mismatch on every play by default.  And the play calling is sharp on top of all of that. The QB just has to identify the hole and not screw up.

We probably agree on Purdy's skill set. I just think Fields's arm and accuracy is much better than Lance's, and the supporting talent gap between Chicago and San Fran aren't comparable.

His accuracy is a bigger problem than you realize

You cannot be angry about something you expect. Not angry about losing to a Packers team, I no longer consider a rival. Clean house is needed and McCaskey needs to stay out of that decision.

Not hurt or angry necessarily but disappointed because I expected the game to be more even and instead the Bears just got pantsed everywhere but the scoreboard.

I agree. Disappointment is definitely the right word.

Bears/Packers is a one sided game of ramshambeau.

What really annoys is that Eberflus would be the perfect DC for the Bears moving forward but now, there a chance we have to watch him go elsewhere and be that DC.

I do think this team is further away than many think.

There's only one true weapon on offense and it's not the QB. Kmet is above avg at TE but that's more because of him being the #2 option on a bad offense.

The RB group is below average without a true #1.

We obviously know about Moore and what is not there after him.

Offensive line:

Davis was a huge disappointment as was Whitehair and Patrick. Jenkins can't stay healthy and Jones was ok at LT with Wright being good at RT.

This offense was well below average in talent and production.

ST -

Santos was good. Gill was terrible as was the return team (Taylor and Velus)

Defense -

Sweat was pivotal in getting this defense better. Actually provided a true threat.

Billings was ideal for his role.

Walker was disappointing as was Ngakoue. Dexter improved once Sweat arrived. Pickens and Jones were seldom to be found.

Edwards and Edmunds were sold yet unspectacular.

Johnson improved over last year, proved worthy of the franchise tag. Brisker was good, like to see him on the field more, Gordon was a disappointment, IMO. Stevenson improved as the season went on but still missed assignments. Jackson was a disappointment as well.

I think the games they choked offset the easy schedule they had. They didn't deserve to be mentioned as a possible playoff team (even with 14 teams getting in). The talent or coaching isn't there.

Even if they have a successful off-season, they might be able to backdoor into the playoffs next year and battle Minnesota for not finishing last.

I'm not sure why these guys always have to be lumped together in evaluations. While I did think Edmunds was pretty much meh all season, I thought Edwards was a standout. He never gives up on a play and seems to always be in on the tackle, if not actually making the tackle.

My observations of this game thread the day after.......

Welcome to the Kyle thread, where occasionally the discussion will occasionally venture a bit towards the Bears game. I'll never understand how someone can find enjoyment seeking fights with several people all at the same time over a whole lot of nothing. It's so easy to just say nothing sometimes when it's clear what you are about to say is going to anger someone. It's crazy easy. It doesn't even take keyboard strokes, it's that easy.

With that said, FIRE EVERYONE! Well, I still like Poles.

1. The RB group not having a #1 is simply not a problem. They have a good stable of RBs and honestly.... you can just get any random guy out there. I will say, I'm out on Khalil Herbert. I know he had a couple nice games down the stretch but I really don't like the way he runs - he goes down on first contact too easily and that matters much more to me than home run potential as a runner. I would like to see D'Onta Foreman brought back and teamed with Johnson. But its an extremely minor issue.

2. Oline-wise...you're absolutely right. They need a Center and a Guard, and can use depth everywhere. Ok. Use some picks and cap space to solve that - seems easy enough!

3. Defense. You need a couple guys. An edge rusher and a safety, and hope the DTackles improve. Ok - not a huge deal for me.

4. I guess we need a punter.

None of these things are big deals to me! Or, rather, we have the resources to adequately address them. Through the draft and free agency we can easily add a couple starters and depth pieces.

Lol, so you're claiming Trey Lance is more accurate than Fields?  When are we going to play chess? Your evaluation is garbage.

I looked at my post and I don't see the words "trey Lance" anywhere in them.

I think, with great sadness, that Getsy is no worse than the 4th worst OC in my lifetime. Shoop, Ron Turner and Mike Tice we’re all markedly worse.

I barely paid attention from like 2016-2021 though, so there may be worse offensive minds there

Ron Turner was fine. Mike Tice was a good o line coach in over his head. Shoop and Crowton were bad.

1) A lack of impactful RB isn’t a problem if you have impactful receiver group.  The Bears do not have either.
2) the bears have had plenty of resources to address obvious needs for two years now and have failed to do so. I don’t have high hopes that Poles will figure it out now.

Do you care if this post bothers me?  You don't, right?

That's how much I care if me posting something that is on-topic, true and relevant makes one of them mad.

You're so commited to the bit you can't even bother to be coherent?  Get a grip, dude.

I am genuinely surprised at how inept the lines were made to look on both sides of the ball.

I thought "His accuracy is a bigger problem than you realize." was a pretty coherent English sentence.

If I had wanted to type the sentence "Justin fields is less accurate than trey Lance" I would have, but I didn't.

Regarding 2) they really only had 1 year to address needs. Because they were purposefully trying to tank in year 1. (You can dispute if that was a good strategy or not! I am open to the idea that it wasn't a good idea)

And yeah, they didn't effectively address all those needs in the one off-season they set out to address them - but they made progress. I wish they did more to address the Oline, and more effectively. Neglecting the Center position in particular seems to have been a huge blunder. Davis has been a huge disappointment at Guard.

But the holes are far more manageable this year compared to last. It is a test to see if Poles can do enough to address them, particularly if he brings in a rookie QB.

I'm glad I chose the word pathetic earlier.

I'm progressing from confused to amused.  It seems *very* important to you to claim some sort of status differential in this conversation.

I hereby grant it to you. I acknowledge that you are higher status, cooler, of hierarchal precedence, or whatever else it is you are looking for here.

I am so genuinely confused by this entire exchange.

It's going to come down to an intense online chess match, a $2,000 winner-take-all all online gambling festival, or duel with .32 caliber single-shot pistols and 20 paces. You pick.
