I think they should have capped the playoff at 6 or 8 but I’d rather have 12 than what we have now.

Kyle McCord has entered the transfer portal and wont be playing in Ohio State's bowl game.

Interesting

Does this say something about other QBs on the roster? Or their coach? There was chatter of Day to aTm but I assumed that was just internet BS speculation.

There are never 12 teams in the NCAA who are capable of winning it all. We love tournaments so, go crazy! But this is not going to generate nearly the excitement they think it is. It will generate the dollars though.

Who wants to see the SEC champ or runner-up beat on Penn State or a third-place ACC school? Also, it's going to help ND get into the playoffs every year, so there is at least one other reason to hate it.

8 would have been my preferred playoff.  No byes or on campus games.  P4 conference champions, top G5 champion, and 3 at-larges.

Seeing the 12 team mocks out there, does anyone believe that Ole Miss or Penn State (sorry Derwood) should compete for the championship?

Looking at it this year (with P5 champions since the Pac 12 still exists)

1. Michigan

2. Washington

3. Texas

4. Alabama

5. FSU

6. Georgia

7. Ohio State

8. Liberty

In a deep year for contenders, that accurately captures the 7 teams that can legitimately win a championship (minor gripe about Oregon not making it but they lost to one of these teams twice so I don't hate leaving them out), plus even if its stupid ass Liberty, it gives G5 a legitimate chance to play for a title.

Dunno but Julian Fleming also just entered the portal. Was a top 5 recruit in the nation (not just WR) a couple of years ago and was being utilized in OSUs offense though was a bit of a disappointment being behind MHJ and Egbuka on the depth chart. He made multiple big catches in the Michigan game. With the top guys both likely going pro there should have been a huge opportunity for him to take over as number 1 WR next year, though it’s possible Day told him that wasn’t going to happen.

Day wouldn't say he was definitely the starter moving forward in his latest press conference. I bet they go to the portal. Dillon Gabriel? Riley Leonard? Cam Ward?

In a commentary on tampering and the transfer portal, we already pretty much know where Gabriel (Oregon) and Leonard (Notre Dame) are going. I haven't heard where Ward's headed, though, that's a possibility.

There's rumblings connecting Cam Ward and OSU from what I've seen today

Maybe that rumor about MHJ getting a zillion dollars in NIL to stay is true?  UCLA's Freshman QB also entered the portal and since OSU was already one of his (many, many) recruiting offers and he's from Detroit, it's very possible they're trying to line up an immediate upgrade on McCord.

The on-campus games will be massively popular

Louisville won't because they're in wrong conference.  Iowa probably won't either but the BigTen team who doesn't have to put a new L on their resume probably will.

Iowa and Louisville were metaphorical then who would actually be playing.  My point is there would be teams in the 9-16 range trying to play their way in or stay in

Marginal upgrade at most. They are already massively popular. I suppose it's a good opportunity for students to sell their tickets to alums and people from other places. So at least that is good.

Can you imagine the disaster scenario if MHJ and Williams stayed in school? At that point, Maye is pretty much a lock to go #1 and someone is going to have to take a swing at Nix in the top 5.

I don’t think it’s marginal to potentially see an SEC team have to go to Michigan or Wisconsin in the deep freeze of December to play a playoff game. Hopefully the ADs at those northern schools don’t chicken out and make those games to domes.

ND wouldn't have been in this year's or last year's 12-team playoff, and given what the committee just did to Florida State (which is not exactly a peasant in the CFB pecking order itself), I'm not sure any non-champ that doesn't play a B1G or SEC schedule is going to be safely in going forward.

Um, what? First round matchups this year would be:

PSU @ OSU

Missouri @ Oregon

Oklahoma @ Florida State

Ole Miss @ Georgia

At least two of those games are really interesting. In addition, the “I’m not playing the bowl game because I don’t want to get hurt before the draft” thing goes away as these are meaningful games.

I don't know what point you are trying to make here. I already stated they will make a lot of money. The interest in the games on TV will be about the same as it is for a weekly NCAA slate of games. No one is going to be excited to see a bunch of 2nd tier teams play to see who gets the right to get beat by one of the top four or five teams.

The injury thing doesn't go away, but the NIL stuff could take care of that. If some of these guys are going to get obscene money to stay in "school" for another year, that is a good thing.

lol, I envision a future where UM plays the Chicago Bears in first-round relegation play to see who gets into the Champions league.

he's been plagued with shoulder problems his career there, i think with the parade of (healthy) 5-star WRs behind him he was probably politely informed he was likely being leapfrogged

Dante Moore was a complete mess this year, he would most likely present an immediate downgrade for tOSU i think and thusly not really address their most pressing need right now

You will care, sorry. A national audience is not going to appointment watch a 9-3 LSU play an 8-4 Clemsnon. Or a rematch of USC vs ND that occurred three weeks prior.

I see 1 maybe interesting game in Missouri-Oregon. Two rematches, one featured 3 total TDs and the other a 52-17 blowout. And the fourth game will feature a backup or 3rd string QB. And it wouldn’t be FSU-OU. It would be Liberty instead of OU which would somehow be even less interesting.

Last year would have been Tulane-TCU (boring), OSU-PSU (rematch, though a higher scoring game), Bama-USC (I’d watch) and Tenn-Kansas St (another injured QB). And ridiculously enough, 2 loss Clemson and 3 loss Utah get byes.

FWIW, I have to think the seeds will get massaged to avoid first-round rematches. There are going to be rematches in the 12-team playoff - I'd say that's a deal-breaker for me, but the conferences themselves don't seem to mind considering how many title games are rematches these days - but they're not going to have PSU/OSU and Ole Miss/Georgia play rematches when they can just switch those games around.
