Ironically enough, this would be a year where the classic 8 team playoff proposal would work perfectly:

5 power conference champs: Michigan, Washington, FSU, Texas, Alabama
Group of 5 best team: Liberty (hey, they were also undefeated)
2 at-arge teams: Georgia, Ohio State

We'd get some seeding complaints at the very least. 😊

I'm an absolutely ncaa football casual, but have been mixing it up in the comments section of nccaf Twitter.

SEC fans and their sense of superiority is insane.  Arguments created out of cloth with no regard to CFP actual criteria.  Appeals to results from 2021+2022.

I’d be ok if neither team got in. The SEC is down this year.

they should just do Michigan vs Washington for the championship. lol

So apparently the committee process is to first create groups of three and only use the h2h or other criteria among comparable teams? So for example Texas' h2h over Bama doesn't count if they aren't in the same group of 3.

So basically there's a hugely consequential decision creating two groups of 3 among the top 7 and one schools accomplishments are basically unimportant.  I guess that school is either OSU (for not playing) or Texas (for not winning against a good enough opponent).  That call between OSU and Texas basically determines everything then, unless GA loss is deemed bad enough to drop them 6 spots.

Yeah, SEC fans act as if the conference has won 75% of the national championships over the last couple decades or something. Sheesh!

Michigan v. Bama and Washington v. Texas, FSU is left out

As it should be. No one who watched the games yesterday can honestly say FSU currently is one of the top 4 teams.

IMO it’s the best way to deal with a bad situation.  FSU fans will scream bloody murder and I can’t blame them.  But they aren’t on Bama’s level.

I get it - and for obvious fan-related reasons a large part of me is happy about it - but I think it's wrong. Florida State should be in. They won all their games. They may have looked like ass much of the last 2 weeks, but they still beat Florida on the road and beat a top-20 team at a neutral site. Hell, Michigan played basically the same game against Iowa and Penn State (admittedly, better defenses than Louisville), and they took no hits for it, which they shouldn't have.

Thats the absolute dumbest rationale possible.  It's the 2023 season, not the 10 year running championship.  This is exactly the complex I'm talking about lol.  SEC has apparently reached participation trophy level status.  Absurd.

The 4 best argument thimg is of course subjective BS because OSU got zero play on that and most anyone would put them in that subjective conversation.  It's just random timing and conference alignment that leaves them out of the same convo that people were also putting Georgia in.

Using the Committee's rankings, you have on one hand, a team whose best victories are v. #13, v. #16, @ #26, and no others in their Top 33.  In comparison, you have a team who lost v. #3, and had victories v. #6, v. #11, v. #13, v. #25, @ #33.  I think independent of margin of victory or injuries there's an argument Bama is the right choice on resume grounds when a quarter of their games are against better teams than Florida State saw all year(and they replicated FSU's best win).  Certainly not black and white though.

I knew this was happening, but how soon everyone forgets Alabama should have lost LAST week to a team that got smoked by New Mexico St

That's the part that really does it. Bama is in largely on eye test (though TT does make a good resume case) when they needed an almost literal miracle to beat a pretty lousy Auburn team 8 days ago.

FSU barely beat BC, Miami and Clemson too. Goes both ways on that.

LSU hung with both teams for a half before both pulled away. Plus even if the SEC is down a bit this year, it’s still stronger than the ACC.

completely gutless cowardice from the committee, you wonder why did FSU bother to play their season and fight through adversity

is it just forgotten 3rd string QB Cardale Jones won a title

I'd rather watch Michigan/Bama than Michigan/FSU anyways.

The hilarity will be when Bama/Texas is the national championship game and FSU wins their bowl game. When was the last time a Power 5 team ended the postseason undefeated and didn't play in the national championship game?

cool then just completely forego the season and schedule Michigan-Ohio State & Georgia-Bama and they get their precious ratings
