It's still super early, but I'm absolutely dying for some solid rumors on a trade/FA.

Same. We’ve gotten a few rumblings, but for the most part it’s been really quiet.

At times, they strike me as a team the places a little too much value on nostalgia.

Bingo. They're going to make him captain or something dumb like that. Need someone to fill the Wainwright retirement tour slot.

Marlins are looking for a catching upgrade and I'm not super attached to Amaya. I wonder what the Cubs would need to add to land Edward Cabrera.

They have a bunch of nice players and pitchers to shop for, but I'd rather not with Amaya. The Cubs have nothing there in the pipeline. Don't give me that horsefeathers about Moises until he drops 40 pounds.

Unless you're comfortable with Sanchez or Garver's defense or Counsell really stumps for Caratini, this is not the winter to willingly back yourself into the catcher market.

That said, the Marlins are bereft of bats enough that we can probably pretty easily make a deal without Amaya.

My hope, when they eventually end up signing Stroman, they lock him in for way too much $ and too many years

Saw something on twitter about Bo Bichette? Wonder if he’d be ok moving to 3rd.

I don't think the Jays are trading players like Bichette and Vlad.

have no idea if he has any legitimacy but people like the bleacher nation twitter account are treating him like he is somewhat legit

The pieces the Cubs have on the level of Bichette to trade, they need them as much as the Blue Jays. Meanwhile the Cubs dont need a SS. I fail to see the logical connection from both sides.

Now if we were talking about Vlad? I might get interested. Vlad is someone I could see the Blue Jays trading because they would likely get way more in return than his worth because of his name and what he did years ago. Hes trending down for years while his salary is trending up.

I bet more of a stab in the dark signing than anything. I'm always good with taking stabs at the dark on lefties with weird deliveries.

Seems to have a podcast with Sports Mockery, not my favorite of all possible platforms. Doesn't seem to be breaking a lot of news on his twitter. Impressive followers list though. Lots of Chicago media (the BN crew, Zumach, NSB) but also a few national guys like Jim Passon, Tim Stebbins, and MLB Pipeline. Hard to tell.

Roberts, Peavy, Harper, World Series.

Man everything that happened that offseason was a “precursor to Peavy”. I wasn’t around during the Roberts days.

I like Amaya just fine but I don't see any possible way he carries that type of value.

I could see him being enough for Cabrera or Puk, but not both. Cabrera is young but he's yet to throw 100 innings in a season. He's only ever done it one time in his pro career and that was in 2018 in A ball. He's probably their 4/5 pitcher so you can replace that pretty easily if you really like Amaya, but why would the Cubs do it? They have a plethora of those guys to choose from and then they are left trying to figure out how to do exactly what the Marlins would be accomplishing.

The Roberts trade rumor thread is quite a legendary thread on NSBB.  There was obsessive constant posting for months and months.  Peavy was also a long obsessive thread with its own legendary moments (Peavy signing Go Cubs Go at a bar), but something about that Roberts thread just sticks in my head.  Roberts was a solid 4 win player and filled an area of need, but I'm not sure why we were so obsessed with getting him.
