And no agent would ever talk to you again.

This is just a contract that fits for the Cubs.  He's very well looking at a 3/36 or 4/45.  But the Cubs don't need him for that long.

True, didn’t realize how much of a steal his contract is at less than 30 mil a season.

It's 20.1 million a year to be exact!  What a steal!

Is anyone getting super sketchy ads when they go to BleacherNation?  Like full screen fake McAfee virus alerts and stuff?  I'm getting them pretty regularly there but nowhere else, so I'm doubting it's on my end.

Yep happened yesterday and I haven't tried to go back. I started getting that McAfee crap.

Same. Every mobile link I click on from them sends me to something like that

I kind of get the inkling today is going to be nuts.  Deadlines spur action, and that absolutely nothing has happened yet this offseason makes me think there's some things that are mostly done but are depending on some action today to get finalized.

Nah. My adblocker is really good there.

Seattle clearly has the in on signing Japanese players, but I do wonder if the specter of Ichiro and his legacy is actually a negative for the Japanese superstar class.

That’s surprising. If I remember correctly, Seattle only just fell short of signing Shohei.

Yeah, the never quite know how that’s gonna go right? I recall people trying to pitch to Lebron James the bulls and Jordan and topping what he did in the 90s and I believe there was speculation that it was a negative in the bulls attempts.

Wasn’t overly concerned about the Mariners anyway as I still think the dodgers and rangers are the main problems. But one team down haha

Yeah, I didn’t really think they’d do the level of deal necessary to get it done though. You just weren’t hearing about them at all either.

The Rangers were one of the teams impacted by the Sinclair TV rights thing.  They might not have the finances.  I think the Giants are a big threat.  They almost landed Judge and Correa last year so they have money to spend.

You’re correct. All 30 clubs would love to have Shohei but those contract terms ($500M+) most likely rules out about half the league.

Yeah, that’s a good point. Do you think the money they made off their World Series run offsets that at all?

I believe it was the lowest rated World Series in the past decade so I would think losing the TV deal would hurt a bit more. It doesn't appear to be all about the money with Shohei though.  If he chooses Texas it's probably because of the talent on their team.
