Saying it's a 4-6 week injury.  Still has to be a heavy favorite for the Calder

Boone Jenner broke his jaw in a game in early December and is expected to play in the All-Star Game

Foligno resigned, 2 years, 4.5 aav.

$4.5 million seems to be the going rate for guys that should be making $2.5m playing bottom 6 minutes on a good team. The Blackhawks have no talent on their team and aren’t trying. But they are playing real fast and loose with with cash flows for guys thay have no chance of being part of the next good Blackhawks team.

They’ve planted stories about who they  would look to resign the day before the Foligno and Dickinson contracts. The big thing today was. “We might have too many draft picks and don’t need more.” They are loaded with prospects and picks but desperately need actual hockey players to skate with Bedard.

Blackhawks beat islanders in OT last night and Islanders fire their coach today. Blackhawks have a little of the bears stink on ‘em.

Now if the Bears owner would just die already too.

2 years, no damage. I'm fine with it.

Yeah. It’s no damage. It’s just weird to be so frivolous with mediocre guys. Yes, they still have more spending to get to the cap minimum. And yes they do need some veteran stability. And yes, Mrázek has been a clearly better goalie than the kid and probably every other option available, but when you keep giving out deals twice the value of the player just because you can, it seems silly.

Hawks are not going to spend much before Bedard's ELC is up. This, imo, is more about making sure the Hawks get to the floor (for next season) than anything else.

The article is running a feature listing the odds of each team winning one stanley cups over next 5 seasons, starting with the current season. The Blackhawks have zero chance to win this year or next. Probably next to zero in 2026. I expected them to be near the bottom of the list, with maybe a 5-10% chance.

nope, they are listed in the top half of the league, with a 14% chance of winning by 2028.

15. Chicago Blackhawks

Connor Bedard changes everything here; the moment those ping pong balls dropped, the Hawks were back on a path to another championship. The question is whether they can get there in our five years, especially when this year is a write-off and next year probably will be too. Kyle Davidson has done a masterful job on the teardown part of the rebuild, which is the easy part. How quickly can he surround Bedard with enough talent to compete? Sidney Crosby won a Cup in Year 4; Connor McDavid is still trying to get close in Year 9. If we were doing 10-year windows here, the Blackhawks would be near the top, but five years may not quite be enough.

Odds of a Cup in five years: 14 percent

I just happened to check the standings and had no idea how far back the Blackhawks had fallen.  They are all but assured of having one of the two worst records in the league.  Obviously we know that is no guarantee of a top draft pick, but even if they keep stacking Top 5 picks year after year, how long will it take for this team to actually be competitive again?  At some point, you just keep cycling through young players if there is nobody on the roster to support them.

Realistically the earliest they could threaten to make the playoffs would be 25/26 season. And if you make the playoffs anything could happen. But they’ve already ruined Lukas Reichel by surrounding him with nothing, and you can be pretty certain a couple other top picks will disappoint.

This was a cooperative effort, I'm annoyed at all parties.

Nearly every veteran player has been injured, still injured or released. Couple that with Bedard missing upwards of 8 weeks and yeah, I'm not even watching them right now. It's not fun to watch a team that is likely only going to score 1 goal if any. Especially when that goal or assist won't be coming from Bedard.

I guess the good news is some of the youngsters are getting valuable playing time.

good thing the bears won’t be a threat to draw eyes to a playoff game

When could the game be held?

The source said he believes the actual timing of the game is still up in the air. The expanded College Football Playoff quarterfinals will be held on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 next season, complicating the scheduling. There will be one playoff game on the evening of New Year’s Eve, and three games throughout the day on Jan. 1.

There is precedent for moving the Winter Classic off of New Year’s Day. The 2017 and 2023 editions were held on Jan. 2 to avoid going up against the NFL. — Mark Lazerus, Blackhawks senior writer

I went in 2009, the novelty has worn off. New Year's Day is on a Wednesday? The NFL still will have 1 week to go in the regular season, and I don't think they need to worry about college football quarterfinals too much. The game usually starts around noon, so going up against one college game.
