Hawks get beat down by the Eastern Conference worst Columbus Blue Jackets (derwood alert).  They have now lost 14 of their last 15 games and have the least points in the NHL.  In fact, the only team that is within 12 points of the Hawks (35 points) is the Sharks with 36 points, but the Hawks have played 2 more games than SJ so they're definitely the worst.  Historically, they are the 17th worst team in the NHL per points percentage since 1980.

Of course they are bad by design and if you're tryin to lose might as well lose a lot.  Yes injuries and other things have made them even worse than they probably anticipated, even if they expected to be very bad, but damn I thought I'd have a little more fun watching this team.

Oh well, hopefully they can strike gold in the lottery again and maybe start to put some pieces together.  Has anyone followed the Hawks prospects closely?  Any of the guys from the last 2 classes doing anything particularly noteworthy outside of Bedard?

From a production point of view, Gavin Hayes has been at close to a *two* point per game pace since he got traded within the OHL (still a Hawks prospect). The two most important prospects, Oliver Moore and Frank Nazar, both look plenty good in the B1G this year, but neither is setting the world on fire.

The most noteworthy thing to me is that as bad as they’ve been, and with as many high picks as they’ve had the past couple years, they still just ranked 7th in a recent prospect ranking on the athletic.

part of that is because Badard doesn’t qualify for that list, but unfortunately Reichel does. They seemingly have a whole bunch of guys who can be middle/bottom 6 forwards, and quality defensive pairings. But they are desperate for their college guys to score more often and may need Calabrini this summer.

This team wasn’t designed to be good, but they were not supposed to be this bad. And signing a bunch of middling veterans to help hit the floor again next year is not going to help.

What was your favorite part of the Anthony Beauvillier era? He’s been dealt to Nashville for a 5th round pick.

I'm pretty sure my favorite part is the fifth round pick.

Sounds like a wine maker from the south of France

Bedard with one ridiculously ugly forced it off the defender goal from behind the net, then another absolute beauty on a 5 on 3.

Then an awesome pass for an assist. Looking great tonight.

7 goals in back to back games where the Hawks were the better team? What year is this?

Maybe things are starting to click a little. Obviously they’re nowhere near good or decent even but would be nice to finish the season with some improvement.

Or perhaps they just played the 13th and 14th best teams in the conference and were due for a couple wins.

If he averages just over a point a game until the end of the season he can still hit his 69.5 over under point total.  Despite missing 15 games
