He's relishing all this attention.  He can't get enough of it.  From the dogs name, to the hiding out and having covert meetings, to threatening teams not to choose them if they talk.  It's narcissistic if you ask me.  Extreme self involvement.

Dude, it’s just baseball.

I know that, dude.  But to me, he's eating this attention up.  And for the record, I think he's coming to the Cubs.

Who is this guy?  The Al Yellon of Dodgers blogging?

He seems like some sort of reputable Dodgers blogger. Got a handful of retweets from reputable folks. With that said, the quick squash likely means this was either not sourced well and he ran with it, or just bad journalism.

If he pulls a Lebron he's seeking attention for his ego, if he does the opposite and says he doesn't want do anything publicly he's seeking attention. The guy is in a no win scenario. The media is legitimately mad at him for how quiet he has been about this.

I'll say this: if Passan/Gonzalez are saying he's not made a choice, it's likely not his flight. Be weird to not make a decision but fly to Toronto.

Meanwhile there is going to be some poor schmuck who is going to be puzzled when he gets off a plane only to see a bunch of disappointed Blue Jays fans.

And what if he wasn’t even in SoCal today?

Bingo. The real likelihood is that the plane has someone else on it who's flying from Anaheim to Toronto for X reason. And then some opera singer, who has been tweeting incessantly about Ohtani for a bit, faked Kikuchi's sushi booking to make him self seem self-important. None of that is to discount how likely the Jays feel right now, only that I really have a lot of doubt about these plane trackers and dinner plans.

Cubs need to annouce Glasnow and Hoskins right now. horsefeathers Ohtani news 🙂

I agree with this. IMO they should make these moves regardless of Ohtani. So do it and move on with or without Ohtani.

Both techniques are ways of seeking out attention.  Both ways keep them in the limelight and constantly discussed.

But there is another, way to go about it.  But he won't get constant coverage this way.  He can become a free agent.  He can negotiate with teams.  He can pick and announce his new team.  And he can play baseball.  But there's not excessive media coverage on him that way.  So it's happening this way.

This off season was and is about Chapman, Hoskins, Glasnow type moves, I don't know why so many twisted themselves in knots thinking Ohtani, Yamamoto or even, Soto, for that matter, were even the remotest possibilities for the Cubs.

So, do exactly what he did. Look I get it, you're mad he wont be a Cub, but this is just irrational.

That is what he’s doing. The media and fans have turned this into a circus, not him. Be mad at yourself.

He’s the greatest baseball player we’ve seen in generations. Anything he does will garner attention. He’s literally just a free agent doing what you said.

The "Ohtani?" plane is currently flying over Illinois air space for the next 4 minutes or so (clipping the NW corner of the state).  How exciting!

He’s clearly 100% hung up on the whole threatening teams thing which was very likely way overblown.

So is he flying to Toronto to announce the deal?  And then having sushi with Kikuchi and Co (who was dumb enough to make reservations in his name)?

For clarity's sake:

From multiple sources (two Toronto based, Passan and Gonzalez) he has not made a decision. It would be weird if he hadn't made a choice, but took a flight to Toronto. It wasn't that "a decision was unknown" but a definitive "not".

The "dinner reservations" was tweeted by an opera singer in Toronto who's been tweeting incessantly about Ohtani for days now and has under 1K followers. None of whom had any connection to being a legitimate sports reporter.

I don't think that is his plane. I don't think that the dinner reservations are accurate. I think the first is a coincidence and the second someone pretending to know things. That doesn't mean I think any less of the smoke blowing; it certainly seems like right now Toronto is likely the choice ultimately. Only that I think these other two things are not useful in helping us make that determination.
