Hey look, someone isn’t asking for public funds for their stadium.

Um, isn't that the site that the WSox wanted for their new stadium? If so, that's hilarious.

Yes, and they just released a statement saying that a Fire and White Sox stadium can fit in the same parcel.

Good luck earning that back without any subsidies

Good luck building anything bigger than a strip mall for less than $100 million.

the Columbus Crew stadium cost half that ($319 million), but that was 5 years ago and pre-TariffMania

It's also pre-Covid and in Columbus, not Chicago.  I'd bet that second part is easily a 1/4-1/3 cost increase.

I met a customer based in Chicago yesterday. He has construction documents for the Bears new stadium in Arlington Heights. General Contractors/Construction Managers are in budgeting phase with the team. Sounds like there is a clear design in place and the construction end of it is moving forwward.

Did you happen to get the name of the firm on the title block? I'm curious who's designing it

Isn't that an old one? I seem to remember last year seeing something like that

Yeah, the location doesn't jive with AH, the open ends showing the city. There may be another design for AH

Anyone catch Brandon Johnson on The Score?  I caught the tail end of it, but it sounded like he was still pushing hard for the Bears to go forward with a lakefront stadium deal, despite seeing the writing on the wall, and claimed the Bears had offered some financial sweeteners in paying down the debt from the 2003 Soldier Field renovations.

I still can’t get over how stupid the 2003 renovations were, making it the smallest stadium in the league for the 3rd largest market in the country.

regardless i find it offensive whenever teams demand new stadiums after barely 20 years in use. Stadiums should last longer than that! Go cry somewhere else

ugggh stadiums DO last longer than that, at least the physically built part. its the Business that changes, and 20 years is a long time in that sense. I'd say the vast majority of the vertically constructed environment is only meant to last for the OG owner about 5 years. Its a depressing stat to think about from my pov as someone who conceptualizes them, but in the end most are only built to make money. Stadiums are no exception in that sense

It's the 1% mentality always to want more and better. Not necessarily the Bears, because they do actually need a new venue. But the White Sox? Their park is fine. Most of the other new stadiums are being built for the upper corporate market with boxes and luxury perks, just like the NBA and MLB. Very little is done to enhance the typical fan's experience. It's just money changing hands from one 1%er to another, funded by the taxpayers.
