Didn't the Gary idea come with the cheesiest 90s development name ever.  Like SportsWorldPlex or something lame?

I think so, I remember taking a bus trip in 1995 to see the Bears in Cincinatti and everyone was bitching about the smell from the factories as we drove thru Gary that if the Bears move there it would be terrible.

According to Reddit, the proposed stadium was going to be called Planet Park and other locations of a possible move was Hoffman Estates and Aurora

Wasnt that supposed to be built in Gary Indiana? I remember Daley II saying if they move there they have to be called the Gary Bears

No that was another option discussed around the same time but the McDome was a proposed dome stadium build next to McCormick Place. It could have been built for cheaper than it took to renovate Soldier Field and would have had a longer shelf life. Not to mention things like Super Bowls, Big Ten Championship FB games, Final Fours, possible Wrestlemanias all the big event crap we hope for with a new stadium would have been possible and we’d have been ahead of the curve

The Bears got their tax bill decreased at Arlington Park from $10 million to $6 million for 2023 and $4 million in 2024. That delayed the building process if they end up building in Arlington Heights. And every year they delay, the cost goes up a couple hundred million. Doesn’t make sense.

FWIW a bunch of people on that right winged cesspool are randomly claiming that the Bears and Arlington Heights are a done deal and will be announced after the draft. Also some are saying the Bears are promised a Super Bowl soon after the stadium opens.

None of the people are reporters or anything but I find it interesting that after months of no news a bunch of people are saying it’s done. Plus, you’d think people who wouldn’t normally report Bears news might be privy to this info (like people involved with the municipal government in AH).

Or one person faked a report and then people looking for clout jumped in with their own reports.

edit: actually one of the people is a barstool dude with 400k followers so I guess that’s more legitimate

So a rightwing nutjob?

I mean it makes all the sense in the world to go to AH. Shovels in the ground and open the stadium for the 2028 season? SB following the 2029 season?

I’m just happy for this interminable drama to be done. Build the stadium horsefeatherss!

AH is inevitable but I doubt there’s a whole bunch of randos that know it’s a done deal and nobody reporting it.

I suppose I'm feeling my age more these days, but I don't like the Bears playing in a dome. At the same time, I don't like seeing any team play football in a dome. Besides with global warming, they might get adverse weather once or twice a season.

Is Kevin Warren going to get a shovel in the ground in 2025 like he said he would. Legislative session has ended. Best hope is for late 2025

I think with last week's news most of the reporters were saying its very unlikely they break ground before 2026 at this point.
