Kevin Warren just sent out something on the Bears’ social media accounts saying that the move to Arlington Heights is all but assured. They didn’t want public money… or what he really means is that city of Chicago and the state wouldn’t give them any more so they’ve decided to go to Arlington Heights.

See how easy this is, Bears? But believe it or not, the Bears hired the wrong guy to lead their project.

Since the Bears announced their stadium project in 2021:

New Titans stadium was announced in October 2022, broke ground in 2024, opening in 2027

New Bills stadium was announced in March 2022, broke ground in 2023 and opening in 2026

New Browns stadium was announced in October 2024 planning to open in 2029

New Commanders stadium was announced in 2025 planning to open in 2030

New Broncos stadium announced in 2025 planning to open in 2031

Meanwhile the Bears can’t even definitively pick a site for their stadium (even yesterdays statement ended by saying that they “hope” to make Arlington Heights their new home) and are targeting 2031, a full 10 years after the first mentions of this

You would think that the Bears would get lucky and hire one right person in an area of leadership after all of these years

The year is 2034.  Kevin and George feel optimistic about the progress.  These things take time. Shovels in the ground by 2035 is my expectation says Warren.

"We're sure this Top 5 pick will be the QB of the future," Warren adds.

This feels like the Soldier Field project to me now.  The Bears hammered away on that project for years and wound up with the mistake by the lake.  A spaceship that landed inside the old stadium grounds and costed a ton of money and has been a terrible venue for a generation.

We have a vendor from Chicago and he is telling me that the city has refinanced the debt on that stadium so many times they actually owe far more now then immediately after the project. I guess there's a documentary about it that I have yet to watch.

Sorry for the self quote - found the video

Rough numbers are City of Chicago sold bonds to the amount of roughly $400 MM

The debt was refinanced a number of times, paying interest only frequently, and as of 2023 the city still owes $383 MM dollars of principal and $256 MM of interest

I’m just glad that there will be no public funds spent on this thing. It never ends up paying off for the states/municipalities or the taxpayers. Let the billionaires fund their billion dollar stadiums.

There will be, but it'll be on things like roads and public transportation that the Bears aren't directly and solely benefitting from.

I still can’t get over how stupid the 2003 renovations were, making it the smallest stadium in the league for the 3rd largest market in the country.

regardless i find it offensive whenever teams demand new stadiums after barely 20 years in use. Stadiums should last longer than that! Go cry somewhere else

I’ve been in Texas 34 years. The Rangers are on their 3rd stadium since we moved here, the Mavericks are about to be on their 3rd, and the Cowboys are on their 2nd. It’s wild to me, especially when two of the “old” stadiums will still be standing and in use.

How does this horsefeathers idiot still have a job after wasting so much time and money? It's legitimately baffling that he's still employed.

He helped convince George McCaskey to fire Eberflus early and pay up to land Johnson, so I give him credit for that. But he clearly can’t get a stadium deal done. From the creepy “Day in the Life of Kevin Warren” to having to be in every Bears locker room postgame video, he’s just a weird dude who is helping to destroy the goodwill the Bears are creating. The McCaskeys clearly want to be in Arlington Heights and this delay is costing the team hundreds of millions a year. They shouldn’t have hired a team president who either doesn’t feel the same way or can’t get it done. For Warren to drop NW Indiana and then claim it’s not about leverage against Arlington Heights and state funding - everyone sees through that. Fire Kevin Warren now.

So what are the real blockers here?  State leaders told him 2026 isn’t gonna happen.  Why?

The Bears want some public funding and the Bears are not getting what they want

It is pretty baffling that this isn't getting done. Everyone knows that they're going to end up in Arlington Heights. They own the property already. They've cut deals with the AH local government. You're not getting more money from the State. Give up already. Every year you delay is another year where they don't have a stadium and you're spending millions on real estate taxes with nothing to pay for it. Soldier Field has a capacity of like 58,000 and they're missing out on tons of missing revenue because it's so goddamn small and worse for everyone: the team is getting good and will probably stay good for at least the next few years.

Will we get a stadium by 2030? It's looking dicey.

Also, I'm beginning to wonder if the McCaskeys even have enough money to build a new stadium without state money.

Can't they borrow more like the rest of us do?

What the hell? Great timing by the Bears too. Best season in 7 years and you pull this stunt? I thought shovels in the ground in 2025? Ha, 2026? Caleb will be in the HOF by the time this horsefeathers gets done

Dan Pompei is not one to throw things like that out without reason. That’s not good.

Nah this is just Pompei clearly posturing for the Bears.  There is NO chance that Indiana will ever accommodate the Bears when 95% percent of the state is Colts fans.  Just absurd to even consider.
