I'm officially out on Fields. He can't read defenses and make decisions.

Maybe if you have enough patience and a good supporting cast he could be OK, but he's never gonna be elite, and I'm tired of settling for anything less at that position. Rosen him this offseason.

He looks broken mentally. He had his issues with accuracy last year but he’s missing throws that he absolutely made last year

We spent all offseason messing with his mechanics.

Never felt worse after a win lol

Yeah I’ve never ever felt bad about a win before but this is probably the worst I’ve felt after one. Completely uninspiring, Fields looks like he took a step back, we’re not in the running for anything, coaching staff being horrifically conservative. Not great.

The thing is the issues Fields is showing right now aren't necessarily new issues, but he seems to actually have regressed and now it's all compounding in itself, both in how Ds are playing the Bears and in Fields confidence and Getsy's confidence in him.

The crazy thing is I think if I was a DC I'd be absolutely fine letting the Bears run for 250 on me and just sit back and watch them be utterly incapable of passing the ball. It's ugly.

Seems like Poles and Eberflus were out on Fields from the beginning. Like someone pointed out, their offseason moves on offense were focused on good run blocking OL, good blocking WRs. Kmet has stayed in to block more than he has in his first 2 years imo. Sure if Fields proved he could be productive they would accommodate that in the game plan but instead they built a team that could win while requiring almost nothing at all from their QB.

Amazing how Ohio State continues to produce All-Pro receivers and absolute dud quarterbacks

At least we won’t be in a position to draft stroud

Even the most rational diehard Fields' supporters, after this game, have to start thinking he's doesn't have the goods to succeed in the NFL. If that's the case, I'd stay away drafting the QB's of programs who surround them with 5 star recruits. For me, that means a hard pass on Young and Stroud.

The Bears took 2 top 11 QBs in the last 5 drafts (not including 2022). There were 20 1st round QBs taken in those 5 drafts. Here is how I would break them down

Hits:

Mahomes

Watson (on the field)

Allen

Lamar Jackson

Kyler

Burrow

Tua

Herbert

Lawrence (maybe?)

Mediocre:

Mayfield

Daniel Jones

Mac Jones

Misses:

Trubisky

Darnold

Rosen

Haskins

Fields?

TBD:

Love

Wilson

Lance

So if you picked a random 1st round QB from the last 5 drafts and remove the TBDs you'd have a 53% chance of picking a star, 71% chance of picking at least an adequate QB and a 29% chance of being a bust. Despite being one of the most aggressive teams at drafting QBs during this period, the Bears picked 2 of the 5 misses (if Fields continues along this path).

Now the Bears didn't have a chance to draft several of these guys, just more or less pointing out how many teams have been able to jump into the draft, grab a QB and have their franchise guy and continue on their merry way while the Bears have failed potentially twice and may be looking to use yet another 1st on a QB in the near future.

of those 9 hits I just posted about, I'd say Tua, Kyler, Burrow and Lawrence were in programs that surrounded them with 5 star guys (Alabama, Oklahoma, LSU and Clemson). I don't think it should you should avoid it, but I'm definitely wary of OSU QBs and hoping that the one bright side of Fields failing is that good QBs will stop going to OSU causing the downfall of their program. (I can hope cant i?)

Dont forget we traded an extra first round pick both times to get our busts

Trading up for Trubisky (over Watson/Mahomes) was far more egregious than trading up for Fields.
