Not great, Bob.

"not sure what he;'s looking at" - he isnt looking AT the WR's, hes looking at the D! and he's confused by it

I'm guessing he looked at that nearest CB, but I think he does jump the underneath route probably later than Fields had hoped. But even if that's the case, there's no reason not to throw to the underneath guy once you hit the end of your drop. If he threw it quick enough, nobody can say that corner route is open because the CB is kinda in no-mans land. He's literally covering nobody for a bit and a throw can be made in front or behind him. Neither is not a real option here.

would it surprise anyone if Lovie told his D to do stuff like this? Urlacher and Brown used to brag about their ability to fool with young/rookie QBs. unfortunately, Fields is getting to the point where its freezing him into worse and worse performances. Hes got to start trusting his instincts more and perhaps taking a chance early in his drop back instead of holding onto it

I'm sure everyone just wants to move on from the performance but damn

(this is not a video, I just took a screenshot from a video, so no need to click on the play button)

3rd and 6, Fields is intercepted throwing to Mooney in triple coverage. Pettis is completely open on the other side of the field and probably has a TD if the throw is on the mark. Kmet is also open as his checkdown on the side of the field he is looking at. Not sure if Kmet gets a 1st if the ball goes to him but certainly seems like a better option than Mooney with defenders all over him. It's possible the coaches are telling Fields to just focus on one side of the field which is why Pettis goes unnoticed. But plays like this are there to make.

This photo shows 8 defenders.

One of the defenders is shading the right side of the field deep, another is the person I mentioned is at the center of the field and picks up Mooney. The third is also on the right side of the field playing shallower for the checkdown.

Here's the full play:

More breakdowns. Apparently he has a patron now so his full game analysis is behind a paywall but he basically breaks down the video into individual plays and posts them on twitter which is almost better.

He said right decision, bad throw/TE possibly let up a bit on the route causing the throw to miss badly

Given the pass rush it was good decision and given his body position it was mostly a good throw, just a little high. Mooney should have had this

Good decision, good pass

Upon seeing the All-22 I feel slightly differently about Pettis being open. He was open but it was a tighter window than I had guessed. But the Safety does read his eyes and starts to shift towards Mooney before Fields begins his throwing motion, so he might have been able to look off the S and throw to Pettis. Bad decision, bad timing, bad throw

One situation where a delay by Fields helps him because if he goes to Kmet early its an INT

I'm as down on Fields right now as anyone however, in watching some of the film breakdown I feel slightly better. He did make the right read and throw on a few plays and yes, he was terrible on others. Given its possible to repeat something one does correctly again maybe, there's glimmer of hope. Moreover, I caught some of Trent Dilfer on the radio and, he to, said Fields was terrible, the interceptions were incorrect reads and their were other throws that could have been made. He also said there were some flashes and perfectly executed throws. Along with he's not ready to write Fields off as a bust just yet. Is what we are seeing from Fields Mitch dumb or still learning, mistakes will be made and will slowly improve? I certainly hope its the later, just once, horsefeathering once I want to see the Bears with a competent QB. Edited by gflore34

PFF grades:

Jenkins once against vastly outplays Patrick despite getting only 1/3 of the snaps. Fields actually gets by far his best PFF grade of the first 3 games.

Kyler grades poorly again. Roquan gets a strong grade as expected. Despite not recovering a fumble he fell directly on top of Joe Thomas has the best grade on the defense.

The O-line grades are encouraging. Patrick's issues can probably be written off as his hand injury (I think he was still in the glove thing on Sunday?), and Jones is young/inexperienced enough that we shouldn't write in pen that he can run block but not pass block. By mid season this group might be pretty solid, and in the meantime the only good/scary defense on the upcoming part of the schedule is Dallas.

Three games in a new offensive system in his second year in the league with no OL, no WR's, no TE's, and an OC that doesn't seem to be doing much to develop him. HE horsefeathering SUCKS! Can't wait to waste another first round draft pick on a QB in 2023. The Bears are a horrible organization no matter how many GM/HC changes they make. Brady, Manning, Rodgers, Mahomes all would have been busts in a Bears uniform.

Guys, I gotta get a read of the room for what is clearly the most important issue from the game....everyone agrees those Bears uniforms suck, right? When the horsefeathers did they roll those things out?

Not a huge fan but I hate the bright orange jerseys more, which I believe will be coming in a couple of weeks. The Bears wore their traditional home uniforms for week 1, but don't play in them again until week 9

Yea, I didn't love the all-whites. My personal favorite has always been the all-blues, but doesn't seem like we* wear those all that often these days.

* That's right, I said "we" as if I play on the team. Full disclosure: I do not.

I was indifferent on these throwbacks, they have much worse versions. I don’t mind the orange with white pants, the monochrome orange are terrible.

Wait, WTF am I reading? People don't like the uniforms the Bears wore Sunday? They are horsefeathering excellent.

The orange jerseys are bad. All white uniforms are excellent as well. The blue throwbacks with the block orange lettering are wonderful as well.

These are facts. You can debate, but you are wrong.

Oh, no doubt, but the one's from this past week were horsefeathering stupid. It's like whoever designed them couldn't decide whether they wanted to make them look like a totally rando made up team from a football movie (no doubt called "The Dragons" or some horsefeathers), or flat out ripoff the Bengals and the Broncos, so they just did both.
