Interesting. Is there a reason people are so down on Tua? He looked great at times (vs Arizona, for example) then other times looked like a rookie QB less than a year removed from a devastating hip injury, with no training camp, throwing to practice squad receivers behind an O Line starting 3 rookies.

Sure, those are excuses but it seems crazy that he goes from the consensus top pick a little over a year ago, to the 5th overall, to now not even being worth a first rounder?

He seems like a QB that can be good with the right system but could also be a complete bust. Not sure Nagy is the guy that can design a system to take advantage of his strengths.

Tua wouldn’t be my first choice for QBs but I would prefer him over like resigning Mitch because of that high ceiling potential

Nagy seems like a good fit for him. Insanely accurate, can read defenses and go through his progressions (though needs to improve further), lightning quick release, mobile enough to run some RPO.

so, with news reports that Arob wants $25 million yr/ave and the franchise likely closer to $18 million, what would the trade market look like for him on a tag and trade deal?

Probably less than we'd think. It's so dependent on ARob signing an extension with a team to get good value. Can you beat the likely comp 3rd you could get for him in 2022?

He doesn't want 25Mil/year. It sounds like he wants the prestige of a 100M contract. Which could be a 5-year deal. But why tag and trade? If you can fit the 18Mil tag, I don't mind paying him that for 1 year while you get the QB situation together. The Bears are either going to get a legit QB, in which case they can let ARob go after a year and draft his replacement w/a QB in place. OR they are going to get one in the draft, in which case they can either afford him long-term or again let him walk and let the young QB develop w/ a draft WR.

The thing about the franchise tag is it's all or nothing. If you tag him, you most likely aren't going to be able to trade him before the draft. That would require Robinson signing the tag and probably the trading team to negotiate a long-term deal he's happy with before the trade can happen. If not done before the draft, the Bears won't be getting a 2021 pick for him. If that's the case, might as well hold out for the comp in 2022. Also, it's not like you can sign another WR with Robinson on the tag. So, even if the trade does happen before the draft, all the top FAs will be gone after 2-3 days of free agency.

Arm strength is limited. I'm also not a big fan of small QBs, who aren't dynamic athletes. There is Drew Brees, who is a HOF 6' QB, but he was drafted 20 years ago. The other QBs near that size are Wilson, Kyler, and Lamar. I mean, he could be Drew Brees. Lord knows he has the pedigree for it. It's not like he's some kind of longshot. He was a top 5 pick and a 3-year starter for the top program in the country. Just never been overly impressed with him since after that national championship game.

That feels like so much for Stafford. I’m not going to like the price for Watson

They basically had to pay them to take Goff as well.

Its funny because I was starting to get down on the thought of a Watson trade. 3 1sts, and probably 2-3 day 2 picks is a lot to give up, especially as you have to replace aging players on defense and bad ones on offense. But hell, the Rams haven't had a 1st since Goff and in one of the last 4 years didn't have a 2nd either.

But if the Rams can make it work so can the Bears with an actual elite QB. Probably would have to find more Mooney's, Jackson's & Nichols' in the mid rounds, have some UDFA luck (RRH, Mustipher) and cheap FA luck (Edwards, Gipson) again.

Even if the Bears don't win a ring, can we at least see some elite QB play in blue and orange?

I guess depending on how you feel about McVay v Nagy... Or Donald v Mack for that matter.

They've also managed to at least have a lot of mid round picks so as to not be starting at 5 or 6 man draft classes every year.

True. Also, they seem to be really good at getting out of bad deals. Both Goff and Gurley were bad deals and they immediately jumped ship instead of just dealing with it. Wonder if the Bears could take advantage of this with Quinn or maybe even Jackson.

Since 2016, The Rams have received Jared Goff, Sammy Watkins (15 games), Marcus Peters (22 games), Aqib Talib (13 games), Jalen Ramsey, Brandin Cooks, Daunte Fowler, Austin Corbett, Kenny Young, Matthew Stafford, two 4ths, a 5th, three 6th's, a 7th rounder and whatever Detroit gives up in trade with Stafford for:

Jared Goff

1st Rounders- 7

2nd rounders- 4

3rd rounders- 4

4th rounders- 2

5th rounders- 3

6th rounders- 1

Just coming to post this. People have speculated they want a pro bowl level defensive player. This sounds like 2021 1st, 2021 2nd, 2022 1st, 2022 2nd and Roquan Smith. I probably wouldn't throw in both Smith and Jaylon Johnson. But Johnson + Nichols maybe.

Do it Bears. Although I think Watson ends up in San Fran.

SF doesn't seem like the franchise that will stomach an offer like it will take. And like the Bears don't have a top 10 pick. They've apparently said they're sticking with Garopollo.

Jets/Miami are still best positioned for Watson, IMO.

Starting with 20 i have to believe we would have to go beyond that presumed proposal

So 3 firsts + mid rounders + Smith and Nichols/Johnson? I still do it. Just pointing out that that is probably a deal they take from the Jets, but not the Bears.

How do the young D assets of the Jets or Dolphins line up to Smith and Johnson?

I don't know, it's kind of tough. Based on the sneak peak we got of the D without Smith and Johnson, I'm not sure the team would be that much better, even with an improved offense. Marginally so perhaps, but they Bears would run low on options to build the D. Are they a division round team instead of a wildcard team, maybe?

I don't have the answer to either question but they'd have the most important building block in place. So that alone pushes me into the "dooooooo iiiiiit" camp. You're just never gonna win a ring without one and you're probably not getting one at 20 this year. Although Pace will be 100% willing to trade whatever it takes to get his guy as well being in his last year. Honestly I imagine both teams could put a comparable player pkg together. Tom could probably weigh in on that.

That shoulder of Johnson is damn scary to me, as an aside. He flashed star upside no doubt but how often will he actually be available?

Personally I don't think we're getting Watson.

Yea I'm probably in the do it camp still, but like with no more expectations than what the Cutler years gave us. Maybe one good run and they a lot of other disfunction and 8-8 finishes.

But I could finally go get that Watson no 4 Bears jersey I would have lined up to buy on draft night 2017.
