Another DC candidate down. Aaron Glenn was rumored to be going to Detroit like 3-4 days ago, but was still talking to the Bears and Jags. Now officially going to be Detroit's OC. Was a DB coach for NO and a former long-time CB in the NFL. The more I learned about him as a coach, the more I've liked about him.

If I had to rank my order of preference for Bears next DC:

1. Sean Desai- current Bears DB coach

2. Jonathan Gannon- current Colts DB coach

3. George Edwards- Cowboys senior defensive assistant

4. James Bettcher- former NYG/Ariz DC

12,973,752. Mike Singletary- 80s linebacker w/ big eyes and noted team mooner.

So are guys abandoning the sinking ship w/ a lame duck coach/GM or does this show the Bears actually have/had good coaches that other teams covet?

a little from column a, a little from column b

I'm sure they have quality coaches if they are getting poached, but the degree to which they are leaving suggests zero faith in sticking around past the end of next season, and/or the lack of opportunities to move up in Chicago

For London, QB coach is a legit promotion given history as that spot as a stepping stone to an OC role.

I feel like there was some talk with the new minority comp rules that QB coach and coordinators could be included in some form. Did that happen, or is it just HC/GMs?

I think the fact that this team has been relatively competitive in recent years suggests there have been good coaches around, and these hirings just reinforce it.

I definitely think there's a bit of jumping ship going on but these guys are taking legit promotions (as far as I've noticed). These guys had to see what a disaster the press conference was and the refusal to answer the simple question about Pace's contract shows a lack of transparency and guys have to doubt the ability for things to get better before they get worse.

I was hoping for Glenn but a lot of that admittedly has to do with the fact that he is an Aggie and played at A&M when I was there. He was always a good dude in my experience. But from what I have seen he has done a good job coaching in the NFL and deserves this opportunity. I hope he does well in Detroit with a fellow Aggie as head coach.

rapoport reports Sean Desai is new DC, and others report Bears may hire Duce Staley in some capacity.

This is good. Desai was my top choice as noted a few posts ago. Really like Staley too. Had been a RB coach for the Eagles then promoted to Assistant HC by Pederson. I'm assuming he's going to be the RB coach, but it's very possibly he has a bigger/better title. Wouldn't be surprised to see him as passing game coordinator too, replacing Ragone and London at the same time.

Want Stafford?

He'd probably.immediately become the most talented passer in Bears history, but I think he's had too many injuries and is too immobile to last behind the Bears line as currently constructed.

As long as the Bears line doesn't feature Coward ever it will be okay. Yea they need to add a new young high potential guy, and this draft looks like a good opportunity to do so, but it's not too far from competency.

Stafford isn't being traded in the division. Sounds like Indianapolis and San Francisco battle.

I'm personally rooting for the Niners as I think they are more likely to trade up (and have the ammo) to get a QB in this draft.

Colts seem destined for a vet QB over drafted one, plus they pick after the Bears. Stafford to SF also likely means Jimmy G is cut instead of the Bears needing to trade for him, if they want to go in that (bad) direction.

With Rodgers creating a story about potentially leaving GB, to join Stafford, Watson and long list of other QBs likely to change teams this year I get a feeling that Pace is going to get involved, give up a draft picks but somehow not finish with a new QB.

I was trying to figure out what is the most Bears outcome to this situation and figured it was either giving up too much for Darnold or acquiring Wentz without any relief for his salary factored in. But I don't think Wentz is going anywhere now so the second most likely may be Pace bidding against himself and somehow giving Mitch 3 years with no cap relief in years 2 and 3.

Give up 3 1sts for Rodgers and then he retires next year after an 8-8 finish. Packers select HOF QB Mac Jones with one of those picks.

That is the most Bear outcome.
