The Bears don't really have a shot unless Watson tries to steer himself to the Bears specifically. What they could do is act as a third party to acquire a QB from a team that ultimately gets Watson. Don't ask me for details.

And that doesn't sound like a QB solution for the Bears.

It probably isn't, but they'll have to acquire multiple to figure this out. Might as well try to find the next Tannehill while also trying to draft a Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Lamar Jackson or other non-consensus top 10 guy.

Yep. While ideally the Bears would come out of this offseason with Watson or Justin Fields or Zach Wilson, those are all long shots. I'd be very happy if they came out of this with say, Drew Lock and Mac Jones.

if you are frustrated with the qb play this year, how does that make any sense on improving it next year? You get MUCH worse at the starter. resign Trubisky and roll the dice on Jones. There is no reason to get worse while trying to get better

Trubisky isn't coming back. Lock will probably be better in 2021 than Trubisky was in 2020. If i'm wrong on the 2nd statement (I'm not on the first), then you have already rolled the dice on Jones, and he plays.

You have to try lots of options. Put a guy in a new system and who knows, he might improve.

But if the worst case is you actually get worse QB play, then you'll also get a much better draft pick in 2022 and an entirely new regime to make that selection.

Without getting Fields, Wilson, Lance or Watson, I'm thinking loading up on the offensive line while waiting for the next QB opportunity is way to go. So go with that bridge or patch work QB, having that OL in place will certainly help to hasten the development of your franchise QB.

I thought he was bad with the Giants

He was great with the Cardinals before that though (3 years of top 5 dvoa defense). Giants talent on D was pretty bad.

I just want to see a QB somewhere this draft. Obviously 20 doesnt look like a strong spot to pick high at this point, but guys like Mond or Newman are compelling enough as day 3 picks. Even if they're only ever backups that's 4 cheap years of backup QB play. Grab a practice squad flyer who isn't Tyler Bray also.

Drew Lock's only real playing time has produced numbers worse than Trubiskys worse year. So I guess if the idea is to tank next year, Lock is definitely the guy. But hoping for a come around..yeeeesh

yea, a rd 2-4 QB should always be a priority if you dont have a Rodgers starting

even then

Yea I mean didn't the Packers fart out like 3 or 4 guys into trade capital that they developed behind Favre in the 90s?

"developed" is a strong term I'm not sure I would use to describe the gases you are describing. there was actually alottttta horsefeathers

but, I think teams have slowed down on that train since Jimmy G. I'd do it just to try and find a guy who can play QB if I didnt have a shot at a cant miss like Lawerence - if there is such a thing

Lock was just an example. But I do disagree with your assessment of his potential (his season was pretty bad though). The point was, if the Bears don't come up with 1 sure option, they then need to come up with 2 lottery tickets....1 via FA or trade and 1 via draft.

Lock had the worst WR supporting cast of any QB in the league. At one point, rookie Jerry Jeudy was his only target of any significance, and even he was running wrong routes and dropping passes. I'd take Lock over Trubisky in a heartbeat if the Broncos make a big splash.

I'm all for them just giving it to Foles, drafting Kenny Pickett from Pitt or Jaime Newman from UGA/WF in rds 2-4 and have him take over in game 3 when Foles gets hurt.

Giving up assets for Lock or Darnold makes little sense. As much as I love Stafford, they're strapped for cash.

They're not so cash strapped they couldn't make Stafford or really any 1 FA/trade work.

I tend to agree about giving up assets for a Lock/Darnold type though. Assets for a known quantity, sure let's talk. For potential, I'll just spin the draft/FA wheel and hope to get lightning in a bottle that way.

Yeah I think this is where I'm at unless the Cowboys are dumb enough to let Dak go.

I don't think you're getting a known quantity unless you get one of the big names at a big salary. After that, if you want someone under 28, you're looking at Mariota, Winston or a Lock/Darnold type. Granted, I'd rather just take another shot with Trubisky (along with a draft pick), but I think it's pretty clear Nagy doesn't want that. If the Bears can't get better at QB, they at least have to get different at QB.
