Man this QB market is gonna be dumb. Might as well go full dumb and either trade a Hershell Walker haul for Watson or just sit back and sift through whatever the fallout is.

Gonna be? We've already seen a Superbowl QB, who won a playoff game last month get traded for a QB with 0 playoff wins and that team give up 2 first round picks to get rid of that guy.

The only way to "win" in this market is to get the best prize or get the best value.

i understand what you were trying to do here and why you were trying to do it, but if goff is a "superbowl qb" then the term carries no weight. we don't need to call every guy who has played in a superbowl a superbowl QB. or we can, but then the term is meaningless/useless. either way is ok.

that sentence just characterizes them in a way that misleads about the fact that stafford is a clear upgrade over west coast mitch.

Oh i fully agree. Just saying this has already been a crazy market.

Why was Wentz suddenly so bad?

IIRC this is a guy traditional and analytics liked a lot in 17 and 18.

I think everything around him starting falling apart. Only 1 other even started the 12 games he started, and that was his center, Jason Kelce. They were a little healthier on the OL in 2019, but notoriously lost every WR they counted on at some point in the season. And his 2019 wasn't bad. It was pretty average, but he wound up with near the same yards per game, same INTs, and much better completion % than his MVP caliber 2017 season. Seems like a textbook case of a guy trying to do too much with everything around him falling apart. He got sacked 2nd most in the league 50x this year, despite missing 4 1/2 games after being benched. Their line was atrocious.

I thought we agreed Goff is Rich Mitch.

to be clear, i'd take him over running it back with mitch (or, god forbid, foles) but that's about the most i can say.

It's definitely going to be the bears

The ONLY scenario where I want Wentz is if the Eagles are paying us draft picks to take his salary, like the Goff/Stafford trade.

If the Bears don't give up a ton of draft capital, and send back Nick Foles, I would not hate the idea.

Hell, a Wentz/Mitch QB room could be fun as hell.

It gives Nagy a final chance to make his system work with a guy theoretically capable of running it, and it's really only about a 2 year commitment. If it all blows up a new regime gets to pick their own guy with Wentz around for a year or two at most trying to rehab his career.

It's got to be the Colts or the Bears, right? They're the only teams needing QBs with major coaching ties to the Eagles.

I don't mind Wentz if he's inexpensive but hard pass if he's going to cost a first rounder.

I'd maybe consider like a pick swap. 20 to 37 is like a late 2nd round value per the trade chart, and the new age analytical charts would say it's even less probably. Maybe even get a mid rounder.

Wentz +37 + 69 for Foles + 20

I don't like the idea of a bigger offer than expected for an expensive QB with cratered value.

Carson Wentz has $59M guaranteed left on his deal and was the worst full time QB in the NFL last year. I don't understand why it isn't incumbent on them to pay us for the favor of taking him.

It's not quite that bad for a team that trades for him. It's basically a 2 year, 47 million dollar deal with two team options after that.

As for compensation, it's mostly a competition thing. If multiple teams think they can fix him and have his value go way higher, then that's going to raise his trade value significantly. And the Eagles don't have that much incentive to trade him this year without getting something.

I'd do that in a heartbeat. I think if the Bears can come out of this with an unquestioned improved starter (Wentz is debatable I guess) and can hold onto pick 20, they'd probably trade down in the 1st to get more picks anyway. I don't like "more than most would expect" at all though.

Eagles take on all his signing bonus, which is technically already paid. So, acquiring team would get Wentz for:

2021- 15.4 Mil base salary + 10Mil roster bonus if the trade is executed before March 19 (it will be or they won't trade him)

2022- 22Mil base salary

Good call on it being 2/47 for the acquiring team. I'm not great at cap stuff. That said I think that still only improves Wentz's contract situation from horrendous to merely pretty bad. Foles and a day 3 pick is probably about as rich as I'd have a taste for.

I’m with you. I don’t see why the Bears should give up much in value for the privilege of paying Wentz $20MM a year.

Put Mitch’s and Wentz’s career numbers side by side. Wentz is better but only marginally so. Certainly not to the extent where the Bears should be giving up picks to pay him $20MM a year when Mitch could be had for Marcus Mariota’s contract.

Not that those are the only two options. I just don’t see why one guy is gold in the Bears’ eyes and the other guy is trash.

I'm all for this. He had a lot of great football with Defillipo (sp?). We'd have been falling over ourselves to add him a couple years ago. I think he could have handled the situation in Philly in a more professional manner. However I would not be surprised if he has a major bounce back with the change in scenery.

I knew Pace was gonna Pace up this off-season but this is maximum pace-ing and it’s just so frustrating to see it play out.

Just sucks, we all knew he was going to horsefeathers things up, make a terrible trade and it's happening, of course.
